“I was skeptical as it sounded too good to be true,” dermatologist Dr Heidi Waldorf tells me from her clinic in New York. “But when I tried it myself, I had my credit card out [to buy the machine] before I’d even got fully dressed.” It’s easy to see why Emsculpt has caused such excitement: the promise of doing nothing while your stomach or butt muscles do the equivalent of 20,000 sit-ups is beyond tempting. Unlike classic muscle-toning machines, Emsculpt uses electromagnetic technology to contract the entire muscle to a degree that’s physically impossible to do in the gym. While you lie back and relax, a large flat paddle is strapped to your stomach and the intensity is dialed up, ideally to 100 (on my first session I managed 90; on my second I hit 100). Interspersed with some so-called ‘relaxing tapping’ (think a woodpecker on your belly), the experience is uncomfortable but not painful. Morning sessions of Emsculpt when you’re more energetic are easier to bear, but overall my muscles didn’t feel tired or sore afterwards.

I’ve owned this device since 2019, and while it does have some limitations, it makes hair drying and styling at the same time incredibly easy.

HOW IT WORKS

A quick rundown on the device itself: The Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hot Air Brush is 13 inches long and weighs just over a pound. Its dryer brush has plastic spokes, as well as shorter fibrous bristles, and the brush head is a wide oval shape.

It has three blow settings that you can toggle between: high, low, and cool. As with any type of hair dryer or hot tool, it’s a good idea to prep your hair with a heat protectant before you use it. When switched on, the dryer blows through the brush head, and you can brush your hair through with it, twirling the device continuously in place until the section is dry.

HOW WE USE IT

You can use the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hot Air Brush to blow-dry wet hair, but to be honest, I don’t do this very often. When I go from wet to dry with this dryer brush, I feel like it dries out my ends while leaving my scalp somewhat damp. Instead, I use it to revitalize day-old hair that’s been bent out of shape by bedhead.

Green coffee beans are unroasted coffee beans that advertisers claim decrease fat accumulation and promote energy.

When you review the evidence, there’s very little proving green coffee beans or green coffee extract can significantly impact weight loss.

While a very small 2021 study did find that people living with obesity reduced their body fat using the supplement for 12 weeks, there were only 60 individuals involved in that study, and it did not involve a patch.

While this recent research is interesting, much more is needed to obtain clear indications of the effects and safety of green coffee beans.
