The substance called deoxycholic acid, also known as Kybella, is used in procedures to improve chin and neck areas, especially to slim down the “double chin” area. It acts by breaking down and helping in the absorption of fat cells present in the region of injection. It gained popularity by being a safer and less invasive alternative to liposuction or plastic surgery.

The deoxycholic acid itself is produced by the human body naturally but its supplementation in this lower face area can be very efficient to create a slimmer appearance in moderate to severe cases. It will be injected in spots selected by your doctor and visible results are expected after 2 to 4 sessions, which are scheduled 1 month apart. The whole treatment is usually done in a series of up to 6 sessions of 15 to 20 minutes each.

The great thing about this treatment is that the destroyed cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so there are no maintenance sessions after your goal is reached. Kybella is safe and approved to be used only in the previously mentioned areas.

There are a few side effects that may happen with the application of Kybella. In most cases they are mild, but the doctor can talk more before the procedure, explaining exactly what can happen and how to proceed if it does. The most common side effects happen in the site of application and are pain, bleeding, swelling, warmth, numbness, or bruising

If you are interested in this procedure, check with your doctor of trust, and ask about it. It can be pricey and take a few months to complete the treatment but when properly done, the results can be exactly what you are looking for.
