Microdermabrasion vs. Dermabrasion

What are the uses?

Dermabrasion : was created to treat acne scars, chickenpox marks, and scars caused by accidents or diseases. It is ineffective in treating congenital skin defects, the majority of moles, pigmented birthmarks, and burn scars. Dermabrasion is generally considered to be safe only for individuals with fair skin as it can cause scarring or discoloration in people with darker skin.

Microdermabrasion is safe and effective on all skin types and colors. It produces subtle changes in the skin’s color and texture without causing scarring. It is ineffective for treating more severe scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, or deep acne scars. There is less downtime with microdermabrasion than with dermabrasion. Ther redness goes away within 24 hours. It is non-invasive and does not require anesthetics or surgery. This may benefit individuals who are unable to take “down time” for healing.

How Do They Work?

Dermabrasion is performed in a physician’s office. You may be given medication to help you relax before the procedure begins. . Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and you will receive injections of numbing medicine to numb the treatment area. The doctor will use a high-speed instrument equipped with an abrasive wheel or brush to remove the outer layers of your skin and smooth out any irregularities on the surface of your skin.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin to remove the outer layer gently. Because this technique is less aggressive than dermabrasion, no numbing medication is required. It is essentially a skin exfoliation and rejuvenation procedure that results in softer, brighter skin.

Are Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion Safe?

Some of the adverse effects of dermabrasion are the following:

  • Inconsistent color changes in the skin (temporary or permanent)
  • Scar formation
  • Swelling
  • Infection

Skin darkening (usually temporary but may be permanent) may be caused by sun exposure in the days and months following the procedure.

Microdermabrasion side effects may include the following:

  • Irritation vecaused by crystals entering unprotected eyes

The Do’s and Don’ts of Hair Blow-Drying

Are you blow-drying your hair properly? Discover what you should and should not do to avoid unintentionally damaging your hair! The way you dry your hair can either result in a salon-quality blowout or cause frizz, breakage, and even premature hair loss which every woman dreams of.

But before you panic, here are six critical blow-drying dos and don’ts to keep your mane in a tip-top shape:

  1. Descending motion

Never blow upwards with the hairdryer; always blow downwards to keep the cuticles flat and smooth.

  1. Avoid using products that are too heavy.

Don’t use heavy products prior to blow-drying, as this weighs down your hair.

  1. Allow to air dry first.

Don’t blow dry your hair immediately after a shower, as this is the weakest and most vulnerable state for hair. To avoid damaging the cuticles, wait until the hair is more than halfway dry before turning on the hairdryer.

  1. Continue to move

Don’t keep your hairdryer in one spot, as this could cause burns to the scalp and hair follicles. Rather than that, continue moving the dryer.

  1. Separate and conquer

Divide your hair into four sections, securing each section with pins or clips and working with each separately.

  1. Guard your hair

Use a heat protectant and set your hair dryer to the lowest possible setting to minimize heat damage.

Silicone Scrubbers vs. Other Methods of Cleansing

Dr. Wu says “I was overjoyed to see silicone scrubbers on the market because I’ve never been a fan of skincare brushes,”. But she prohibits its excessive use as they can be abrasive. She tells a story about a patient who overused her brush and developed a skin infection as a result. She explains, “Silicone tips act as a squeegee, grabbing dirt and oil from pores, while brushes loosen and move surface dirt. As if you were cleaning your shower, would you prefer to use a broom or a squeegee?”

Possible Uses: Dr. Wu strongly advises her patients to use silicone scrubbers on both the face and body, basically anywhere that requires deep cleansing. The scrubber is excellent for removing sunscreen from your body and any other areas where you get back or butt acne.

If you choose to use a body scrubber and enjoy wearing fragrance sprays or body washes, be sure to clean the scrubber to avoid lingering fragrances thoroughly.

Both experts emphasize the gentle nature of silicone scrubbers in comparison to other cleansing and exfoliating methods. In contrast to a washcloth, loofah, or spin brush, the scrubber is the gentlest method.

If you do not wear makeup, you may be able to cleanse properly with just your fingers. If you wear makeup or many products (sunscreen, for example), a scrubber cleanses more thoroughly than your hands. She discovers that washcloths are suitable for most people’s bodies, but the cotton fibers may be too rough for the face. Loofahs are too strong for use initially due to the fibers being too stiff and hard and better suited for specific rough areas such as elbows, knees, and heels.

Six Qualities to Look for in Dental Scaling Tools

Dental scaling tools are the true “workhorses” in the dental hygienist’s instrument kit. The quality, type, and size of the scaler you select will make a dramatic difference in both your daily efficiency and the level of service you provide to patients.

Poorly crafted pieces make it more difficult to clean the teeth of patients with extensive tartar, and as a result, can cost time. Inefficient scalers can make you fall behind in your daily schedule, especially at a busy dental office! Even the weight of your scaler can affect how tired or fatigued you are at the end of the day.

As you can see, there’s a lot riding on your selection of dental scaling hand tools.

We understand there are a lot of choices when it comes to dental and orthodontic instruments. Let’s examine some factors you should consider when purchasing scaling tools.

6 must-have qualities in dental scaling tools

1. Proper Ergonomics

If you have patients who require heavy cleaning, you’re more than twice as likely to strain your hands and put yourself at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome. A study in the Journal of Dental Hygiene stated that 75 percent of dental hygienists have some type of hand problem, and more than half exhibited symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

If left untreated, carpal tunnel syndrome is not only painful, but it results in weakness in your fingers. Eventually, this will progress until you will find it difficult to do everyday tasks such as buttoning shirts or carrying coffee mugs, according to information from the Mayo Clinic.

If at all possible, feel and hold the instrument before you purchase it to get a sense of its ergonomic properties and how it fits in your hand.

2. True economical value

Of course, anyone can make a scaler cheaper, but the old adage is true: you get what you pay for. Longer-lasting dental tools have an obvious benefit, and you should also consider that an efficient scaler enables you to complete cleanings in a timelier manner, which affects the productivity of the entire practice.

3. Outstanding materials

You want to find the perfect balance: you need a strong, stainless-steel material that is crafted to last, but a general rule is that the material should not be harder than the tooth enamel.

Teeth Scaling

4. Textured /serrated handles

Textured surfaces on the handle improve traction and also provide a gripping service that enhances control. You may consider heavily dimpled instruments or instruments that are strategically curved at certain points. Once again, it’s important to hold these tools to get a true sense of their functionality. HOW TO EXFOLIATE SAFELY AT THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME?

If you choose to exfoliate, it’s important to do so safely so that it does not damage your skin. To safely exfoliate your skin at home, follow these tips from board-certified dermatologists.

  1. Take into account the skincare products you are currently using.

Certain medications and even over-the-counter products, such as prescription retinoid creams or products containing retinol or benzoyl peroxide, may cause your skin to become more sensitive or peel. Exfoliating your skin while using these products may aggravate dry skin or even result in acne breakouts.

2. Choose an exfoliation method that is appropriate for your skin type.

For those with dry, sensitive, or acne-prone skin, a washcloth and a mild chemical exfoliator may suffice, as mechanical exfoliation may be too irritating for this skin type. For those with oily, thicker skin, more potent chemical treatments or mechanical exfoliation may be necessary. However, if you have a darker skin tone or notice dark spots on your skin due to burns, bug bites, or acne breakouts, avoid harsh chemical or mechanical exfoliation. More aggressive forms of exfoliation may result in dark spots on the skin for some people, particularly those with darker skin tones.

3. Take care of your skin.

If you’re using a scrub or chemical exfoliator, gently apply the product in small circular motions. Repeat this procedure for approximately 30 seconds, and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Use short and light strokes if you’re using a brush or sponge. Never exfoliate your skin if it has open cuts or wounds or if it is sunburned.

4.  Apply moisturizer.

Exfoliating the skin can be quite drying. Apply moisturizer immediately the following exfoliation to maintain healthy, hydrated skin.

5. Create a schedule that works for you.

Your skin type and exfoliation method determine the frequency with which you exfoliate. By and large, the more aggressive the exfoliation, the less frequently it is required. Take care not to over-exfoliate, as this can result in red, irritated skin.

What Is a Blood Sugar Crash?

0

A blood sugar crash refers to a sudden drop in blood sugar (glucose) levels. The body responds to sugar intake by producing and releasing insulin into the bloodstream.

Insulin is a hormone that pulls glucose into cells to be used for energy and helps keep blood sugar level within the normal range. When there is too much insulin in your blood, it  can drop below what’s normal.

A sugar crash, also called hypoglycemia, is typically characterized by a level below 70 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). It’s normal to have varying levels throughout the day, but low blood sugar can cause severe complications.

Anyone can experience, but it’s especially common in people with diabetes, whose body may not produce enough or any insulin.

Hypoglycemia that occurs in people without diabetes is called non-diabetic hypoglycemia, and there are two types: reactive hypoglycemia and fasting hypoglycemia. They can be triggered by medications, other medical conditions, and tumors.

What Is a Blood Sugar Crash?

A crash, or hypoglycemia, occurs when blood glucose levels go below 70 mg/dL. A low level triggers the release of epinephrine, also known as adrenaline, the fight-or-flight hormone. It is what can cause the symptoms of hypoglycemia.1

Symptoms

Each person may react to hypoglycemia differently. The symptoms of crash can be mild to severe and include the following:1

Nervousness or anxiety

Sweating, chills, and clamminess

Irritability or impatience

Confusion

Fast heartbeat (tachycardia)

Lightheadedness or dizziness

Hunger
