This is How Your Sleeping Position Can Affect Your Skin

0

The way we sleep has a direct effect on our appearance, and the position can affect the skin. We contacted a celebrity dermatologist to discuss the skin problems associated with improper sleeping positions:

Is sleeping on your stomach a bad idea?

While many people enjoy sleeping in this manner, it is the worst possible way to sleep. While sleeping, our skin requires oxygen. This position compresses the entire face into the pillow, obstructing the follicles of the skin. As a result, clogged pores, acne, and lines develop. We are not allowed for sufficient circulation in this position, and the pressure also contributes to puffy eyes and under-eye bags. Every night, your facial structure is pressed against the pillow for 8 thousand that’s a lot of pressure on your skin. Eventually, this position will flatten your face and cause wrinkles.

What is the effect of sleeping on your side?

This position has a lower risk of skin damage than the stomach position. However, this is not the optimal position. When you sleep on your side, tremendous pressure is applied to one side. Due to the friction and pressure, it flattens the cheekbone and causes side wrinkles. Additionally, if you have applied any skincare product, it may spread on the pillow and remain unabsorbed by your skin.

What is the effect of sleeping on your back?

Sleeping on your back is the optimal sleeping position! To begin, you do not apply excessive pressure to your facial skin; this results in fewer fine lines, less flattening of the facial contours, and young and smooth skin. Additionally, your face will not come into contact with the pillowcase, preventing the exchange of oil, dirt, and grime. This will keep your skin from becoming irritated or developing zits!

Know The Benefits of Vibration Massage Therapy for Sore Muscles

During Russian space program, the astronauts suffered from bone loss at a much young age. They began to use vibration massage therapy to help strengthen astronauts’ bone mass and muscles. Today, NASA continues to use vibration therapy to help prevent bone loss.

More research is needed on the potential health benefits and risks of vibration therapy. Some evidence suggests it may help treat certain conditions. It may also pose some risks.

How does vibration therapy work?

There are two main types of vibration therapy: whole-body and localized.

During whole-body vibration therapy, your therapist will ask you to stand, sit, or lay on a machine supported by a vibrating platform. For example, they may ask you to stand in a half-squat position with your knees bent.

During localized vibration therapy, your therapist will place a hand-held vibrating device on certain parts of your body. For example, they may place it on your calf or thigh muscles.

When the vibrations are transmitted to your body, they cause your muscles to contract and relax. Certain types of vibrations may also cause your body to produce more osteoblasts. These are cells that produce bone.

The direction and intensity of vibrations may determine how well vibration therapy works. Some machines produce only vertical vibrations. Others produce vibrations that go up and down, front and back, and sideways. Up and down vibrations are believed to be the most effective for producing rapid muscle contractions.

What are the health benefits of vibration therapy?

Advocates claim that whole-body and localized vibration therapy have a range of health benefits. For example, some people claim vibration therapy can help:

  • increase bone density
  • increase muscle mass
  • improve circulation
  • reduce joint pain
  • reduce back pain
  • alleviate stress
  • boost metabolism

Perso: A Personalized, AI-Powered, On-demand Makeup Device By Loreal

Perso by Loreal is an artificial intelligence-powered, at-home device that delivers on-the-spot skin care, foundation and lipstick.

About Perso by Loreal

The artificial intelligence-powered, at-home system—coined Perso—is a 6.5-inch tall, 1-pound device that delivers on-the-spot, personalized skin care, foundation and lipstick. The L’Oreal Technology Incubator developed Perso and it incorporates ModiFace technology. L’Oreal acquired ModiFace technology in March 2018. This enables shoppers to try on makeup using their smartphone camera in Live Mode or to upload a photo and try on makeup on the static image.

The Perso device has a motor system at the top that moves and compresses the foundation, skin care or lipstick formula from the cartridges. The cartridges are located at the base of the device in an upward motion to come out of the dispensing tray, L’Oreal says. Each Perso device can hold three cartridges, and it refills automatically. The consumers will be able to order additional cartridges through the Perso mobile app.

Benefits

Perso goes beyond lipstick try-on to create personalized makeup options. For example, when a consumer wants a customized skin care formula, Perso will do the following:

  • Skin analysis: When a consumer opens the Perso mobile app, she can take a photo with her smartphone camera. The app then uses AI to scan and analyze her overall skin condition, including wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots and pore visibility. This technology can be used with people of any skin type and color.
  • Environmental factors: Perso analyzes the consumer’s local environmental conditions that may affect her skin, such as weather, pollen and humidity. It does this via the weather analysis platform Breezometer, which is built into the Perso app. It also takes time of day into consideration, such as what a consumer would want to put on her face in the morning versus before going to bed.

Pimple Popping – Why A Dermatologist Should Only Do It

Frequently, individuals exacerbate their acne by squeezing pimples and other acne blemishes. If you’re about to pop a pimple, pause! You’ll want to read this first.

Do-it-yourself pimple popping can have unintended consequences

While squeezing pimples and other acne blemishes may appear simple, there is an art to doing it correctly. You’ll need a proper technique to avoid the following:

  • Permanent acne scars
  • Increased visibility of acne
  • More abrasive acne
  • A disease

These undesirable side effects are very likely when zits are popped at home. If you push some of the pimple’s contents deeper into the skin, you increase inflammation infrequent cases. This can make acne more visible. Certain individuals develop acne scars and pain. When you manually pop pimples, you also risk contracting an infection from the bacteria on your hands.

Dermatologists are trained in the safe removal of acne

Dermatologists employ a variety of different techniques to treat acne physically. One method is called acne extraction, which involves removing blackheads and whiteheads with sterile instruments. Acne extraction is typically recommended when other acne treatments are ineffective. It is rarely the first choice due to the time and expense involved. Acne extraction, when performed by a dermatologist, is a safe procedure for removing blackheads and whiteheads. Dermatologists also use another technique to remove a deep, painful acne cyst or nodule in which he will inject a corticosteroid into the blemish to accomplish this. This expedites healing and decreases the likelihood of scarring. Injections are appropriate for treating a single particularly painful acne nodule or cyst. It cannot be used to treat multiple acne blemishes at the same time. If you receive an excessive dose of corticosteroid, it may cause undesirable side effects.

What to anticipate from acne treatment procedures

A dermatologist uses sterilized equipment to clean out your pores during acne extraction. You may first need to exfoliate your skin. Because blackheads and whiteheads can reappear, you’ll need to maintain a skin-care regimen to avoid developing new blemishes. Within 48 to 72 hours, a corticosteroid injection will flatten the majority of acne nodules or cysts. The key to successfully treating a pimple with incision and drainage is to perform these procedures appropriately.

What Exactly is SkinPen Microneedling? – Fight Facial Acne Scars

SkinPen is the first and only Class II microneedling medical device on the market that has been studied, cleared, and approved by the FDA for the treatment of adult facial acne scars. It is great to know Skin Pen has this level of proven effectiveness. However, Skin Pen works on more than just acne scars. Patients see significant improvement in overall skin tone and skin texture with the reduction of fine lines and discoloration as well. It even has shown some benefits in reducing stretch marks.

How does SkinPen work?

SkinPen is a microneedling device that uses a sterile tip containing 12 pinpoint needles to make small controlled minuscule, evenly spaced punctures into the skin. The small wounds created, which sometimes will cause pinpricks of blood to rise to the surface, then induce a wound healing response.

This is the key to how microneedling works. Your body rushes in to patch up the injury by growing fresh new collagen and elastin, which gives skin more strength and resiliency. By continuing to simulating collagen production over multiple treatments, the end result is patients will see fine lines and wrinkles disappear, enhanced improvement in skin tone and texture, and even reduction in large pores and acne scars. It’s also great for other skin surface irregularities like crepe skin and stretch marks.

The bottom line is, as we age, we lose collagen (1% per year to be exact), and coupled with genetic changes and sun exposure this leads to wrinkles. If we can stimulate collagen production, we can fight off wrinkles and keep our skin firm, plump and elastic, to create what Skin Pen patients refer to as an “overall youthful glow.”

What to expect from the procedure?

Microneedling is a relatively short and painless in-office procedure. When a patient comes in for microneedling the first thing we do is apply numbing cream to the entire area being treated and let it sit for about 15 minutes. As soon as the patient’s skin is numb, we thoroughly cleanse the area and apply a hyaluronic acid-based gel to the skin, which allows the device to glide more easily over the surface.

Also, the gel absorbs into the skin and contributes to faster wound healing and to the skin’s more plump appearance after the procedure. A full-face procedure takes about 20 minutes. The Skin Pen microneedling procedure involves three passes over the skin surface in first a horizontal direction, then vertical, and the final pass is performed in a circular motion. Although there may be pinpoint bleeding during the procedure, this is typically minimal and resolves quickly.

Five Things to Remember If You Want the Best Skin Possible

0

When it comes to skincare, you must conduct extensive research to determine your skin type, tone, and concerns. This is because each individual’s skin is unique, and it only makes sense to be knowledgeable about what suits you and what does not. All of these skincare products contain a variety of ingredients that contribute to your skin’s happiness and health. We’re here to discuss the only ingredients you’ll need to treat acne-prone, pigmented, and dull skin.

  1. Skin-friendly habits

Consistently adhere to the four pillars of wellness. The first is to consume enough water (which includes water-dense fruits and vegetables), and the second is to reawaken your body through meditation and exercise. Third, be kind to your mind by avoiding excessive stress and exertion, and finally, nourish your skin with topical treatments. When it comes to maintaining healthy skin, everything is interconnected. People begin to age around the age of 18, which is why preventive care is critical.

  1. Foods those are beneficial to the skin

All fruits and vegetables that are high in water content are beneficial to the skin. This is because when you consume foods that are high in water, your skin feels hydrated from the inside out for a longer period of time. Among these foods are apples, cucumbers, and grapes. Even watermelon and pink grapefruit contain internal SPF and anti-oxidant properties that protect against environmental damage.

  1. Skincare rules that are frequently disregarded

Numerous people disregard their nighttime skincare routine. However, your evening routine is just as critical as your morning routine. Because your body repairs and heals itself at night, products can work uninterrupted for hours.

  1. Combating technology’s unintended consequences

Make small changes, such as wearing blue-light-blocking glasses when spending extended periods of time in front of a screen. Set timers on your device to remind you to take regular breaks and set them aside to stretch and move. Additionally, you can use topical products to actively combat blue light and environmental stressors.

* Acne-prone skin: Salicylic acid cleanser + treatment

* Acne scars and pigmentation: Vitamin C

* Dull skin: Retinol and alpha hydroxy acids

* Dark circles: Vitamin C and caffeine

* Wrinkles: Increased concentration of hyaluronic acid and retinol

5 Skincare Urban Legends Debunked To Protect You from Skin Problems

0

To protect you and your loved ones from following the wrong skin care advice, we’ve taken the top five skincare urban myths we’re tired of hearing about and debunked them!

  1. Constantly washing your face will cure acne:

You may have heard this a million times, but constantly washing your face throughout the day will not help reduce acne. Indeed, it depletes your skin of essential oils, leaving it extremely dry and parched, and prone to acne.

  2. Scrubbing frequently helps reduce excess oil on the face:

If you have oily skin, it is believed that scrubbing your face twice or thrice a week will help reduce excess sebum. However, this is not true. Indeed, scrubbing your face more frequently may result in bruising your skin, which may result in blemishes or pimples.

  3. Avoid wearing an SPF on cloudy days:

Just because it is raining heavily does not negate the need for sunscreen. Even at this time of year, going without it is a no-no. Even on a cloudy day, the sun’s UV rays are at their strongest, and if you go without sunscreen, you will almost certainly get tanned.

  4. Age spots are a sign of aging:

Age spots or sunspots as they are more commonly referred to, can occur at any age. The freckle-like spots on the skin are not age spots; they develop due to your skin being exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

  5. Expensive products are superior:

It is widely believed that only high-end brands and products contribute significantly to keeping your skin healthy and free of skin-related problems. However, they perform nearly identically to a less expensive product.

The Kairetool Essential Matte Might Just Influence Your Beauty Roller

Kairetool Essential was developed by Kathy and Elisha, who are combining innovation and  knowledge of Eastern Medicine to develop new beauty tools. Kairetool is described by the brand as a “re-imagined facial roller.”

If you’ve used a facial roller before, you might notice that some of them squeak which isn’t the most relaxing when you’re in the middle of a self-care session. So Selfkaire developed a tool that addresses this. It’s made of surgical steel, so it’s much sturdier than a traditional roller. It is great for those who like to apply more pressure when massaging. The gentle rounded pins at the end can be used to target acupressure points.

What I love most about Kairetool is that it’s more than just a beauty tool. It’s incredibly versatile and it can be used on your body as well!

What are the Benefits of Kairetool Essential?

When used on your face, Kairetool has many similar benefits to a facial roller. You can use it to reduce puffiness/fine lines and to soothe tension in your jaw. Being able to use it on my body has allowed me to reach a whole new level of self-care.

Not many people know this, but I suffer from chronic lower back pain which is partially caused by my tight calf muscles and tight hip flexors. Normally when I come home from work, I have to massage my legs and butt with a foam roller to help with the pain. So I was excited to see if Kairetool was able to give me relief in this area as well (spoiler alert: it does!).

Kairetool can also be used to detox over cellulite, stubborn fat, fine lines, and sagging skin. Feel free to use it when you want to indulge in a relaxing at-home massage or post-workout to soothe achy muscles.

Five Techniques for Concealing Burn Scars

0

Beauty has many definitions, and sometimes our flaws become our most endearing characteristics. The truth is that none of us has perfect skin; while there are exceptions, the majority of us have skin issues such as pigmentation, acne, stretch marks, and some even have burn marks. While it is admirable to embrace our flaws, we all have times when we feel the need to conceal them, and this is especially true with scars, mainly burn scars. If you, too, have a mark that you wish to hide at times, here are five guidelines to follow.

  • Purchase a silicone primer

Primer serves as the foundation’s base, allowing the subsequent makeup to appear more smooth and long-lasting. While it is available in creams, gels, and powders, it is best to conceal burn marks with a cream-based primer. Choose any primer that features a formula for customizable coverage (most primer creams have these). Because most scars have a unique texture and tend to stand out from the surrounding skin, it is necessary to use a primer to help even out the area. A silicone-based primer can be used to conceal uneven spots and give the skin a smooth appearance. Take a drop of primer cream and spread it over the scar with your fingertips or a makeup brush.

  • All you need is a color corrector

If you have a small scar, color correctors may be the best option. Choose a creamy, rich corrector with a higher coverage power. A light green concealer is ideal for concealing red burn scars on Indian skin. If your scar has a blue tint, choose a yellow corrector; if your scar is yellowish, choose a lavender corrector.

  • Now go for a concealer

Following the application of the color corrector, follow up with the right concealer. Conceal burn scars with a thick, creamy one. Select a water-based formula to ensure that it remains unaffected by inclement weather. Apply a small amount of concealer to the scar and blend it with a makeup brush.

  • Pick up a foundation

It is recommended that you use a foundation that matches your skin tone after applying a primer, a color corrector, and a concealer. If, however, you have a creamy primer and a collector, opt for a water-based foundation. Even powdered foundation would be beneficial. With a bit of brushing up, you can bid farewell to your unsightly scar.

  • Face powder

Lacking a color corrector and concealer but still wishing to conceal the scar? Apply a translucent face powder that matches your skin tone after applying the primer and foundation, and you’ll be amazed at the results.
