Blue Light: What Is It And How Can That Affect You?

0

What Is Blue Light?

Blue light, a component of the visible light spectrum, is a high-energy, short-wavelength light (not to be confused with UVA or UVB rays). According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the sun is the primary source of blue light that we are exposed to. However, our screens and indoor lighting also contribute significantly to our exposure.

One reason blue light has become a concern is that High Energy Visible (HEV) light. This is typically associated with blue wavelengths on the visible light spectrum. HEV is emitted not only by the sun but also by computer screens, cell phones, and other digital devices.

According to some estimates, we spend half our lives staring at screens. We are significantly increasing our exposure, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many of us are spending more time indoors and in front of screens than usual. Thus, it is critical to understand the effects of blue light.

Disadvantages of Blue Light

Blue light has been linked to eye strain, cataracts, glaucoma, and other ocular diseases. To avoid these conditions, maintain a minimum of 12 inches of space between yourself and your screen and take frequent breaks. While blue light glasses are fashionable, they do little to alleviate eye strain.

However, blue light is not entirely harmful. Blue light is critical for health maintenance because it regulates our circadian rhythm — our natural sleep-wake cycle. Additionally, blue light improves mood and memory and cognitive function.

How to Care For Facial Hair and Safely Shave Them In Your Home

0

To safely shave your face, groom your brows, and level out your sideburns, follow these simple steps.

  1. Select the appropriate tools

If you want to remove peach fuzz from your cheeks and sideburns, an electric face shaver can help. Additionally, sleek facial razors are available for cleaning the brows, upper lips, and chin area. Avoid shaving your face with standard razors and shaving cream, as dull blades can irritate the skin. Dry facial hair removal is effective enough for at-home use.

How to Care For Facial Hair in Your Own Home
How to Care For Facial Hair in Your Own Home
  1. Cleanse the skin

It is critical to properly cleanse your skin prior to grooming facial hair. This is because shaving your face opens up your pores, allowing dirt and impurities to enter. To properly cleanse your skin without overstimulating it, opt for gentle, fragrance-free moisturizing face washes that are devoid of active ingredients. If you haven’t been regularly exfoliating your face, you can gently scrub the area you’re about to shave to avoid ingrown hairs.

  1. Nourish the skin

After cleansing and exfoliating, hydrate your skin. For three to four minutes, splash lukewarm water on your face or hold a warm towel to your face to soften the hair follicles, allowing the hair to be cut easily.

  1. Following shaving, perform a basic skincare routine

Utilize a hydrating toner, a soothing moisturizer, and a gel-based light sunscreen to keep it simple. Consider ingredients such as Centella Asiatica, aloe, allantoin, bisabolol, and licorice root extracts that are anti-inflammatory. Avoid serums and creams containing salicylic acid, retinol, or alcohol, as these can sensitize and irritate the skin.

  1. After shaving, take extra care of your skin

After shaving, your skin will be a little tender, so be gentle with it for a while. For a couple of days, refrain from wearing makeup, avoid using exfoliating acids on your face, and always wear sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation.

What Are Crow’s Feet and How Should We Treat Them

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging process. One of the most common areas to show our age is around the eyes called Crows Feet. As we get older, multiple factors contribute to fine lines and wrinkles, creating a perfect storm for aging skin.

How to Identify and Treat Crows Feet

WHAT ARE CROWS FEET?

“Crow’s feet” is the term given to those fine lines around the eye area. These tiny wrinkles might also be known as “smile lines” since they’re the ones that form when we grin. While these little wrinkles may not trouble you much when you’re smiling, they’re definitely bothersome when they become permanent features of your face.

Most people seek dermatological treatment for crow’s feet when they become noticeable when the face is at rest. These are considered “static wrinkles,” meaning they’re always visible. If these little lines only appear while smiling, they’re deemed “dynamic wrinkles” and probably don’t need treatment yet.

WHAT CAUSES CROW’S FEET?

The simple answer is that the aging process itself causes crow’s feet. But what’s really happening to the skin during the development of static crow’s feet? Collagen and elastin, two proteins found in the skin’s supporting structure, decrease in production as you age. These proteins are primarily responsible for giving skin its plump, firm appearance.

Skin also thins as you get older, and nowhere is this more apparent than the eye area. The skin around the eyes is already tissue-paper thin, which is why rubbing your eyes or pulling on the skin when applying makeup can hurt your appearance in the long-run. When the delicate skin around the eyes is thinning, it’s more susceptible to forming wrinkles.

The bottom line is: you probably can’t avoid crow’s feet by avoiding smiling. But there are certain things you can do to both prevent and treat these fine lines.

Everything You Want to Know about Laser Genesis for Your Skin

0

Laser genesis is a non-invasive procedure that uses a laser, resulting in the production of new skin cells and collagen.

Safety

  • Laser genesis is a safe procedure with minimal side effects.
  • Redness and slight swelling are the most common side effects.

Convenience

  • Sometimes called a “lunch break procedure,” the procedure takes just 30 minutes, and there’s no downtime.
  • It’s important to find a trained aesthetician or cosmetic dermatologist to perform the procedure.

Efficacy

  • After one session, you will notice your skin looks brighter and more youthful, and your pores look smaller. For best results, you’ll need three to six treatments spaced two to three weeks apart.

What is laser genesis?

Laser genesis is a non-invasive and comfortable procedure that uses a laser to gently heat the skin. It can help smooth the skin and reduce the look of fine lines, dark spots, and wrinkles. Typically, its primary use is to fade scarring, redness, and broken blood vessels, and improve the look of rosacea.

This procedure works for people of all ages and skin tones who want to reduce the appearance of fine lines or redness. Pregnant women should not get any laser treatments.

How does laser genesis work?

LG works by heating the dermis directly under the skin; this stimulates collagen production, which plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The heat from the laser can also constrict blood vessels, which helps fight redness and rosacea. It can also help treat acne and scarring.

What is the procedure for laser genesis?

Laser genesis is a quick procedure that’s typically done in under 30 minutes. It’s done by a highly trained aesthetician or a cosmetic dermatologist in an office.

The laser itself looks like a small wand that’s hooked up to a larger machine. You will wear goggles, and in some cases, your hair will be covered. The procedure itself is completely painless. You will feel light heat on the face, and some people say it’s pleasant, almost like sun on the face. You can drive yourself home.

Targeted areas for treatment

The procedure is most commonly done on the face or neck, although the procedure is suitable anywhere on the body. Some will get laser genesis on the:

  • neck
  • shoulders
  • décolletage

What is a HydraFacial & What Are the Benefits?

0

HydraFacials have become one of the most popular facial trends in the modern world, and it’s no wonder why. With gentle non-invasive treatment and no downtime but GREAT results, more and more people are turning to the HydraFacial as their primary functional, integrative facial skincare spa routine.

But why is the HydraFacial so popular?

HydraFacials have become the facial spa care routine of choice because they are non-invasive yet effective and can be used for almost any skin condition and on any type of skin. HydraFacial treatments are far less invasive than traditional facials such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing which leave your skin red and irritated for hours to days after treatment. Because of the noninvasiveness and effectiveness of the treatment, HydraFacials are a great choice for teens as well as adults.

What is a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is a facial treatment using a patented device to deliver exfoliation, cleansing, extraction, and hydration to the face. This system uses a vortex swirling action to deliver hydration and to remove dead skin, dirt, debris, and impurities while cleaning and soothing your skin.

What Happens During a HydraFacial Treatment?

A HydraFacial treatment takes on average 30 minutes. If this is your first HydraFacial appointment, here’s what to expect:

1 – Cleansing & Exfoliation

The first step during your HydraFacial is cleansing and exfoliation. Using a vortex cleansing and hydra peel tip, your aesthetician will use the HydraFacial wand to gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin. This removes dead skin cells and sebum while gently opening your pores. Some people describe it like having a revolving electric toothbrush gently pressed to your skin.

2 – Chemical Peel

Next, your aesthetician will change the tip on the wand to deliver a gentle chemical peel. Unlike other chemical peels that are often irritating or painful and leave your skin red for hours or days, HydraFacials use a non-irritating mix of salicylic and glycolic acids for a gentle yet effective peel. The purpose of this step is to loosen deep pore debris.

This Is Why It Is Imperative To Keep an Am and Pm Routine Even If You Are At Home

0

You already know that the key to maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin is to adhere to a consistent skincare routine. However, now that you are indoors, you may believe that skipping or abandoning a few products from this routine is acceptable. However, the truth is that doing so can be detrimental to your skin in more ways than you can imagine. The following are the reasons why you should continue with your morning and evening skincare routines even if you are trapped indoors.

Dust and other pollutants found indoors:

While your skin is no longer exposed to smoke and pollution on the outside, it is still exposed to dust and indoor pollutants, which can accumulate on the skin’s surface and cause problems. If you’re cooking, oil, heat, and smoke in the kitchen can also cause skin irritation if not properly cleaned. As a result, it is necessary to cleanse your face twice daily with a mild yet effective cleanser and to maintain your lockdown skincare routine.

Ultraviolet rays:

Even when you are indoors, the sun’s rays can cause damage to your skin. Did you know that UVB rays can pass through glass windows and cause skin damage? Not only that, but the light emitted by your phone and laptop can result in pigmentation and redness. Even when you are

indoors, skipping sunscreen is not an option. To stay protected, apply a generous layer after cleansing your skin in the morning.

Anxiety and stress:

It is natural to feel stressed and anxious during times like these. It frequently results in stress eating and hormonal imbalance, which can manifest as skin problems such as breakouts or dryness. Learn how to maintain a healthy mind and body by staying physically active and eating a balanced diet. If you’re already using serums or night creams to address specific skin concerns, continue using them to prevent future breakouts.

Eyestrain:

Sitting in front of a laptop for extended periods of time while working or binge-watching the television shows can be taxing on the eyes. It may even result in dehydrated skin around the eyes and the appearance of dark circles. It is critical to continue using an eye cream to moisturize the area and combat dark circles.

Everything That You Should Know About Ear Piercing

Ear piercing can be safe and simple, but there are some important guidelines to follow when you get it done. If you know what to expect during the piercing and how to take care of your ear afterward, you’ll cut your chances of infection.

How does ear piercing work?

Depending on where you go for your piercing, and the part of your ear that you choose, a professional with a needle or piercing gun marks a spot and creates a hole. The piercer then places an earring in the hole.

Which is safer, a piercing gun or a needle?

Will I feel pain?

Yes, at least a little. But it’s rare to need anesthesia.

Will I bleed?

Possibly. A little bleeding is normal.

Can I take aspirin beforehand?

No. Don’t take aspirin or anything with aspirin in it. This can cause you to bleed more than normal.

What medical conditions would prevent me from piercing my ears?

Piercing may not be a good idea while you’re pregnant because of the risk of getting an infection. Check with your doctor first if you have:

  •  Diabetes
  •  Hemophilia
  • An autoimmune disorder
  • A heart condition
  • A condition that slows or prevents healing
  •  Skin issues in the area you want pierced, including a lesion, rash, lump, cut, or mole

What are the risks?

  •  Allergic reaction. Jewelry made of nickel or brass can trigger it.
  • Infection. People sometimes have redness, swelling, pain, and a discharge after a piercing.
