The use of oral Collagen and vitamins supplementation – Is it enough for my skin care routine?

0

Taking supplements orally for the healthy skin and hair care has become a popular trend but its effectiveness is still in question. Will it really cause the effects it says on the label? Or whether its use will allow us to skip on the creams and traditional cosmetics. The hydrolyzed collagen that is sold on supplements acts by the action of its peptides on the organism, which will make the body produce some of the collagen that was lost with time. It is usually combined with vitamins A, C, E and zinc, which are also very important substances to improve the appearance of skin as a whole.

Being said that, studies demonstrate that the ingestion of these products (especially with medical supervision) is helpful to improve the appearance of wrinkles and make the skin firmer. It can also help in the appearance of enlarged pores which become larger with aging as a result of  collagen loss. These results start to appear after a few months of use and can disappear If the use is discontinued.

On the other hand, moisturizers and other cosmetics that are applied on the skin surface are better to improve skin hydration, texture, and external protection, as it is necessary to use both and treat the skin inside out.

Here are some important details to be remembered:

Sun protection should always be applied, not ingested! The ingestion of water, alimentary and sleep habits and exposure to pollution and excessive sun without protection are also important factors that can affect the result of cosmetic treatments (taken orally or applied on the skin) more quickly or not happen at all. Healthy skin is a product of all these factors and your body will make sure it shows!

How To Prevent Inner Thigh Chafing

0

Excessive friction against the thighs can happen while long walks wearing tight dresses, skirts, or shorts, as there will be no physical barrier between the legs,  as a result the skin becomes irritated. This is called inner thigh chafing and is intensified during the summer, as the levels of sweat, heat and humidity are higher. It can also happen during exercises such as running or cycling, or while crossing the legs, after shaving or in people who are overweight or have large thigh muscles.

As this friction damages the skin of that region, besides the irritation, an inflammatory process can happen and symptoms -such as redness, itching, formation of rashes, blisters, boils, localized pain, swelling, burning sensation and hyperpigmentation- may appear.

To prevent these inconveniences, many specialized products are now available in the stores and in many different formulas. The most popular ones are in lotions, solid sticks, balms, and powders. They act by protecting the friction between the inner thighs and avoiding the chafing, so you can perform your activities safely. Don’t forget to reapply in case your product is not water or sweat proof!

If you do not have access to a proper product, some home remedies can be used to calm and help the skin healing process. Baby powder and lip balms with petroleum jelly are recommended to be applied in the area, as well as cornstarch, aloe vera gel and moisturizers.

It is important to remember to clean the area before applying any type of products, avoid scratching the damaged area and to seek a doctor if the skin irritation develops to open sores and infections, as proper medications will be required to treat more serious cases.

High Frequency Therapy for Hair Loss

0

High frequency therapy is a non-surgical effective hair treatment used to help cure dandruff, alopecia, gradual hair loss and  itchy scalp. This treatment  uses high-frequency and ultra-violet rays to stimulate hair follicle for new hair growth. It also improved blood circulation to the scalp, which  helps to deliver nutrients needed for hair growth.

What are the benefits of High Frequency Hair Treatment?

  •  Revitalize Hairs High frequency improves the blood circulation in hairs which leads to the  supply of sufficient quantity of nutrients to the hair. This helps in revitalizing the hairs. The frequent oscillation helps to improve the scalp health and the overall health of the hair and hair follicle gets  enhanced.
  • Manages Thinning Hairs. Treatment provides optimum blood supply and the accompanying nutrients, helps to manage the thinning hairs.
  • New Cell Generation. Treatment helps to generate new cells and also exfoliates the older cells. This technique significantly improves cellular turnover.
  • Prevents Dandruff And Itchy Scalp. Treatment  also improves the symptoms of itchy scalp and also prevents dandruff.  This is due to the fact that the high frequency stimulates the scalp and  the sebaceous glands are activated. This results in the production of  an optimum amount of sebum which helps in reducing the symptom of itchy  scalp. In addition the device generates heat that helps to kill various  bacteria and other pathogens that cause itching.
  • Reduces Hair Fall. This treatment removes excess  layers of dead cells from the scalp. The oil massage will move directly  into the hair follicles and making them strong. This would help in  preventing the hair fall. Further, due to high frequency, blood supply improves leading to more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicle.  Through increased blood circulation, the toxins are also effectively  eliminated.
  • Improves Hair Growth. Through  various different mechanisms. First, it stimulates the hair follicle  thereby helping the growth of new hairs. Second, it improves blood circulation and provides sufficient nutrition to the growing hairs.  Third, it induces the synthesis of growth factors required for hair  growth such as keratinocyte growth factor. Studies have shown  upregulation of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 after exposure to high-frequency current. This Insulin-like Growth factor-1 significantly  induces the growth of the hair follicle.

Five Reasons To Get A Deep Cleansing Facial

0

Deep cleansing facials are a multi-step skin treatment that can include exfoliation, face masks, cleansing, a facial massage, steam, and a variety of creams and lotions. There are a variety of facials that are chosen depending on your specific skin issues and skin type.

Some are good for skin-firming, others are great for removing dead skin and revealing a fresh layer, and still, others focus on solving a particular skin condition or treating problem areas. Your esthetician will recommend a DCF frequency based on your skin analysis. While it’s standard to recommend a facial every 4-6 weeks, your esthetician may recommend a different schedule based on your individual skin needs or concerns.

In many cases, multiple treatments are needed to accomplish the desired skincare goals. Generally, a series of deep cleaning facials, as well as a daily skincare regimen designed for your skin type, is recommended for producing ideal results.

A deep cleansing facial or DCF is the most common treatment performed by estheticians. It’s a great way for your provider to gain a good understanding of your skin before recommending more or different treatments (if needed). A deep cleansing facial includes:

  • Skin analysis
  • Makeup removal
  • Skin cleansing
  • Exfoliation
  • Steaming
  • Extractions
  • Treatment mask
  • Serum/moisturizer
  • Broad-spectrum sun protection

Here are five reasons you should be getting a deep cleansing facial regularly.

#1: It’s Great for Everyone

Almost any skin type or skin condition can receive (and benefit) from a deep cleansing facial. Everyone – no matter their skin – can benefit from expert exfoliation of dead skin cell debris plus blackhead and whitehead extraction. But wait! There’s more…

#2: Professional Exfoliation and Extraction

A DCF is a great way to let a professional work their skin rejuvenation magic. During a facial, the exfoliation, extraction, steam, and mask application help refresh and renew the skin on a level you just can’t achieve at home. The result is a healthy, radiant glow that will stand out in the long run as your skin is consistently cared for and restored.

#3: Deep Cleansing

Just as the name indicates, a deep cleaning facial provides DEEP cleaning. This cleansing helps rid the skin of unwanted buildup of oil, toxins, dirt, bacteria, and all skin cell debris – all of which contribute to unwanted skin conditions like acne and premature aging.

Are Hot Showers Bad For My Skin?

One of the main components of our skin are lipids, also known as the skin’s natural fats. They are essential to keep our body’s surface healthy, as they are part of a protective barrier that prevents the absorption of impurities and aids in the repairing process too (also known as the skin barrier function).

The lipid production declines with age but many internal and external factors like hot showers may end up compromising this component.  Although it is not burning your skin, the water might be problematic in another way.

As lipids are a type of fat and we know from culinary experiences that fats tend to turn liquid when heated. In case of these components on the skin surface, they will be carried away with the hot water, damaging the barrier function which will be inclined to cause irritation, excessive water loss, rough surface texture and more.

This is a cumulative process, so nothing may happen if you take one or two hot showers but overtime, it might become a problem. It can also be worse in people with dry skin and can affect the hair too!

Applying good moisturizer or skin oil after the shower is helpful in the replacement of these lipids. This happens occasionally but if these products do not help, it might be good to reconsider the temperature of your shower. In severe cases, a dermatologist should be visited so the appropriate treatment is prescribed.

A Minimalist Skin Care Routine: If I Can Have Only 3 Cosmetic Products, What Should I Use?

0

Nowadays the cosmetic market is full of new products and technologies that appear on an almost daily basis and sometimes it can be overwhelming while shopping. What is really necessary and will improve my skin and what can I pass?

A minimalist skin care routine: If I can have only 3 cosmetic products, what should I use?
A minimalist skin care routine: If I can have only 3 cosmetic products, what should I use?

First: ALWAYS apply sunscreen. Sometimes finding the right one can be difficult, as they may be oily, with white residue, cause pimples, and other inconveniences but it is the most important part of skincare! It will prevent sunburns, skin aging, spots, and even cancer so never go outside with one good layer of it. Apply first, other products should always be applied on top of it.

Another essential is a good skin cleanser. There are many options like foam, liquid, bars, or gels and you can pick whatever is more comfortable but to clean your skin in the morning and before bed is really important to let your skin breathe and prevent excessive oiliness, acne, infections, and more. But excessive cleaning is also something that deserves attention as if you have very oily skin, it can actually get worse with too much soap and treatment with appropriate products will be more effective than just cleaning it many times a day.

A good moisturizer should always be included too. It can have other functions like anti-aging properties or help in the treatment of other conditions as oiliness or dryness but never forget to apply it! Hydrated skin is a sign of healthy skin and can prevent aging signs and the penetration of bacteria and other hazards that we are in contact with daily.

Planning your skincare routine should be fun and without any pressures of doing what’s the latest trend or being wrong in any sense. Remember these basic steps and do what makes sense for you!

What Is a HydraFacial Treatment and How Does It Work?

A HydraFacial is a patented skin treatment available in medical spas and dermatology offices. It’s also sometimes called “hydradermabrasion” because it involves microdermabrasion-like exfoliation paired with hydrating serums.

Known for its three-step process, the HydraFacial works to deep-clean, exfoliate, and hydrate your skin. This professional procedure may help treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, dryness, and wrinkles.

The noninvasive procedure is similar in principle to a regular facial you might get from a spa but is said to provide more dramatic results. This is achieved by a mechanized wand used on your skin to deeply clean and exfoliate while delivering serums customized to your skin type.

If you’re curious about whether a HydraFacial is worth the hype, read on to learn more about the potential benefits, the possible side effects, and how it compares to similar treatments.

HydraFacial benefits

The HydraFacial is said to help improve overall skin texture, tone, and appearance. This is due to the deep exfoliation that cleans your pores, removing debris and allowing for better penetration of face serums tailored to your skin type.

HydraFacial for acne

Currently, there are no clinical studies highlighting the benefits of the HydraFacial for acne.

However, microdermabrasion techniques have long been considered effective for treating both acne and acne scars. This is likely due to the deep exfoliation that helps remove pore-clogging skin cells.

HydraFacial for blackheads

Dead skin cells also contribute to blackheads. This noninflammatory type of acne may benefit from the same exfoliating and extracting methods used in the HydraFacial, but more clinical studies need to be done to confirm these benefits directly.

HydraFacial for rosacea

It can be difficult to find cosmetic treatments safe enough for this sensitive skin condition. While more research is needed to prove the safety and effectiveness of the HydraFacial for rosacea, a 2006 study revealed that similar techniques may benefit papulopustular rosacea.

How does the pollution affect my skin and what can I do to prevent it?

0

The skin, being the external barrier of the body, is in direct contact with everything that happens externally. From the residues of a local industry to the smoke of cars and cigarettes, our skin is exposed to harmful substances daily when we live in a modern city. So, it should be taken in consideration while choosing our skin care routines.

An excessive contact to pollution can lead to more accentuated signs of skin aging, like pigmented spots and wrinkles. Sometimes it can result in severe cases of atopic dermatitis, changes in skin oiliness, dryness, psoriasis, blemishes, acne and even skin cancer.

Another important thing that can happen with an extended exposure to pollution is damaged skin and penetration of these pollutants from the skin to the systemic circulation, which may eventually reach other organs of the body and lead to different types of diseases.

What can I do to prevent it?

The human skin naturally has a protection against pollution (made from the action of immune cells), but a daily and prolonged exposure to these harmful substances can end up damaging this natural protection. So, to avoid this kind of damage, many film-forming products and antioxidants can be used. Ingredients with film-forming action (also known as “second skin”) can create a physical protective barrier on the skin surface, so they will not penetrate the skin. Antioxidants can fight the oxidative damage caused by pollutants that have already been in contact with the skin, preventing the damages that it may cause internally. Sun rays can also cause oxidative damage to the skin so the combination of sun and pollution can be a big threat to your skin health and should be prevented!

These products should be used daily after sunscreen and before makeup to stay safe against the possible (and invisible) damages that we are exposed to in our daily life.

Pros and Cons of Gua Sha

Pros of Gua Sha

The presence of “Sha” denotes a yin-yang imbalance in the human body, a disruption in the flow of qi and blood, the production and storage of toxins in the body, and the appearance of toxins on the skin through the meridians. As a result, “Sha” is a symptom of illness. The darker the color of Sha points, the more severe the disease. The deeper you go, the more you’ll discover.

  1. Encourages blood flow
  2. Enables toxins in the body to be excreted through blood vessels or pores
  3. Accelerates skin metabolism, cell repair, and regeneration

Cons of Gua Sha

  1. It can exacerbate or worsen the condition by putting a strain on the heart because of increased blood flow.
  2. It can cause inflammation and spread of infection when used in areas where there are boils, ulcers, and rashes.
  3. Aggravate bleeding when used in the painful part of an acute sprain.
  4. Don’t use Gua sha if you have contact dermatitis as there is a possibility that you transmit the disease to others.
  5. If you are suffering excessive hunger or exhaustion, don’t use it in the meantime, as you won’t be able to bear the scraping therapy. It can’t be used on the lips, eyes, tongue, ear holes, nostrils, nipples, and belly button because of possible congestion.

Let’s Talk About Microdermabrasion

In Microdermabrasion, we use crystals and vacuum to eliminate dead skin cells in the neck, face, back, chest and hands. The ultimate target is to reduce fines lines, age spots, minor scars, and finally giving you smoother and younger-looking skin. However, it does not work for everyone, so it’s essential to consult your doctor if you’re thinking of undergoing Microdermabrasion.

How much?

Based on 2019 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost is $136. However, it does not include other related expenses yet. You need to consult your Plastic surgeons because it also depends on their medical expertise.

How safe?

Generally speaking, Microdermabrasion is safe, especially if the surgeon is well trained, has enough experience, and is qualified. You need to know the person who’s going to perform the treatment.

How is it performed?

The treatment is straightforward. You may not need anesthesia in this procedure—the medical professional moves the device on the treated area. Crystals eliminate dead skin cells, which are vacuumed away. The procedure can take at least 30 minutes to an hour. It’s expected that you experience redness and swelling after that. But no need to worry as this is just temporary. If your skin is sensitive, you may experience dryness and flakiness in the skin as well. You need to avoid sun exposure for few days. Don’t forget to put on sunscreen. If you got any problem after the treatment, contact your doctor.
