Everything You Need to Know About IPL / Photorejuvenation

0

Photorejuvenation, which uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, can help reduce the appearance of some of the most common skin woes, including brown spots, melasma, broken capillaries and sun damage. This minimally invasive skin procedure can also treat signs of aging such as wrinkles or age spots. There’s very little recovery time and few side effects, making it a popular skin treatment.

When to Consider IPL / Photorejuvenation

  • If you want to improve the look of your skin without undergoing a full surgical procedure
  • If you have redness, brown spots or scarring on your skin
  • If you would like to reduce pore size, fine wrinkles and improve skin texture

Considerations

Pros

  • Little to no downtime
  • Relatively long-lasting improvements in skin quality and texture can be achieved
  • Can be performed anywhere on the body

Cons

  • Several treatments may be required before full effects are seen
  • Not as effective for tanned or darker skin
  • Must stay out of the sun after each treatment

These are the top three pros and cons to weigh when considering IPL / photorejuvenation. If you want to focus on what is unique to you, please consult with your aesthetic plastic surgeon.

Are you a good candidate for a IPL / photorejuvenation?

IPL / Photorejuvenation is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation (brown spots)
  • Age and sun spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin texture problems
  • Acne scarring
  • Large pores
  • Melasma
  • Excessive flushing
  • Freckles
  • Age and sun spots
  • Broken capillaries
  • Spider veins
  • Stretch marks

If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.

How is a ipl / photorejuvenation procedure performed?

Photorejuvenation uses a unique technique known as pulsed light therapy to treat skin blemishes. Essentially, this technology shines bright, intense light on various parts of the skin. You will wear an eye mask to protect your eyes from the light, and your doctor will use a piece of equipment called an IPL device, which includes an apparatus with a glass or laser surface. This apparatus is pressed to the problematic areas of the body, emitting a light that heats up collagen beneath the skin, encouraging the body to produce more of this beneficial protein. Enhanced collagen production can fill in fine lines or wrinkles on the face as well as some shallow acne scars. IPL technology also reduces flushing and discoloration on the skin.

At-home Microdermabrasion Devices – Should You Invest in One?

0

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical peel that removes, by use of suction and exfoliation, the debris and dead skin cells from the top skin layer. With that, improvements in the skin conditions such as roughness, unwanted discolorations and sun damages can be noted. It is also known to enhance cosmetic delivery, facial rejuvenation, and a brighter looking skin.

At-home microdermabrasion devices – Should you invest in one?
At-home microdermabrasion devices – Should you invest in one?

It is very popular due to its safety, low risk of side effects and for being a relatively budget-friendly procedure when compared to other cosmetic treatments done at professional clinics.

But that is not the only way to have a microdermabrasion. There are also some devices on the market that allow an at-home treatment with similar effects to the professional one, when done correctly. They will also promote blood circulation and stimulate the deeper layers of the skin, promoting improvements in the aging signs.

These devices usually come with different probes so you can adapt the equipment to your desired objectives, like treatment of oily skin, clogged pores, rejuvenation, and others. The diamond dermabrasion is the most used method on both professional and at-home techniques and will provide a massage and exfoliation without hurting the face skin.

We can cite the LUMINA NRG Microderm Device, Microderm Glo Mini Diamond Microdermabrasion and Suction Tool, Spa Sciences Mio Diamond Microdermabrasion Resurfacing System and Trophy Skin MiniMD Microdermabrasion Machine as great examples.

If you choose to invest in one, don’t forget to be extra careful with the instructions. Try not to overdo it and be aware of its limitations because even if it is close to professional devices, they don’t have the same power or trained professionals to perform the treatment. Also, it is not recommended in cases of ultra-sensitive skin, active acne breakouts, or conditions like eczema, rosacea, or keratosis pilaris.

What are the essential health devices you should have at home?

One of the main lessons that the world has learned in the past two years is how important it is to monitor your health and be alert of changes that may indicate a problem.

As it is not safe or practical to visit a medical facility every time you suspect that something is wrong, having a few basic medical devices at home may help with this. It will help you to know for sure if it is time to find professional assistance or not. health device at home

Some of these devices are simple and commonly found at homes but they also have new versions that facilitate the use and accuracy for more trustable results.

Thermometer:

Thermometer is the tool to detect if the person has a fever, which may be a serious indicative of a medical condition. Depending on the body temperature, serious actions must be taken. They usually are used under the arm and take some minutes to measure. New digital options are used on the forehead.  Even patches are available  for  direct application  on the skin. health device at home

Blood Pressure Monitor:

Every home should have a Digital Blood Pressure Monitor.  It will indicate changes and variation in your normal blood pressure values. It’s necessary to have consistent care, especially if you are on medications. Some devices will keep track of your records so you can present the data on the next medical appointment and understand if changes are needed.

Pulse Oximeter:

Due to pandemic, Pulse Oximeter has become a must have device. . It measures the levels of oxygenation in the blood and heart rate. A high (or excessively low) heart rate is a sign that medical care should be called for and low level of oxygen (less than 95%) in the blood indicates a drop of oxygen in tissues. Immediate medical help should be sought in such cases. There are many smart bands available that will measure these parameters constantly during the day and will let you know if variations happen, so you don’t have to worry about even in your busy schedule. health device at home

LED Devices For Hand Skin – What Are They For?

LED masks for at-home skin treatments are a big trend now but did you know that there are also LED devices for the hands? They look like a robotic glove and promise similar effects to the facial masks, like reducing signs of skin aging, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentations and age spots.

They are a very interesting tool to have with this new age of constant hand washing and use of sanitizers and are ideal for people with sensitive hand skin and heal chapped skin, eases pain (including in the joints) and calms inflammation.

There are a few options on the market, like the CurrentBody Skin LED Hand Perfector , the handLITE Led Hand and Wrist Device. They have some differences but both have red LED lights and an efficacy similar to professional treatments that combine two different wavelengths of red light (633nm) and near infrared light (830nm).

These devices usually require short sessions of 10 to 20 minutes, 3-4 times a week. Visible results will appear after 4 weeks of treatment and the procedure is completely pain free. They can be used before and after aesthetic treatments. A previous hand cleaning and application of an anti-aging serum, like hyaluronic acid, is recommended, as the lights will improve its absorption.

Hand care is often forgotten but hand is one of the first areas that show signs of ageing. Hands are exposed more often to different substances, surfaces, and liquids, which lessens the absorption of creams, as they may not stay on the hand skin for a long period of time. This way, the use of LED hand devices is an interesting tool to guarantee that your hand will stay young and healthy overtime.

How Are Skin Tags Removed? Plus Causes, Diagnosis, and More

0

Skin tags are painless, noncancerous growths on the skin. They’re connected to the skin by a small, thin stalk called a peduncle. Skin tags are common in both men and women, especially after age 50.

They can appear anywhere on your body, though they’re commonly found in places where your skin folds such as the:

  • armpits
  • groin
  • thighs
  • eyelids
  • neck
  • area under your breasts

How are skin tags removed?

Tiny ST may rub off on their own. Most these stay attached to your skin. In general, they don’t require treatment. If STs hurt or bother you, you may opt to have them removed.

Your doctor may remove these by:

  • Cryotherapy: Freezing the ST with liquid nitrogen.
  • Surgical removal: Removing the skin tag with scissors or a scalpel.
  • Electrosurgery: Burning off the ST with high-frequency electrical energy.
  • Ligation: Removing the ST by tying it off with surgical thread in order to cut off its blood flow.

Having small STs removed doesn’t usually require anesthesia. Your doctor may use local anesthesia when removing large or multiple skin tags.

You can also try natural remedies to remove this. These include tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice. Keep in mind that there’s no scientific evidence to support these remedies.

It’s not a good idea to try to remove STs on your own. Many websites offer DIY instructions for removing STs by tying them off with string or applying a chemical peel. Even in a sterile environment, removing skin tags may cause bleeding, burns, and infection. It’s best to let your doctor handle the job.

How to identify a skin tag

The main way to identify a ST is by the peduncle. Unlike moles and some other skin growths, skin tags hang off the skin by this small stalk.

Most these are tiny, typically smaller than 2 millimeters in size. Some can grow as large as several centimeters. STs are soft to the touch. They may be smooth and round, or they may be wrinkly and asymmetrical. Some STs are threadlike and resemble grains of rice.

Apps To Enhance Your Sun Protection Habits

Proper sun protection is the most important skin care habit, and it should be done daily (even when it’s cold and cloudy!) as it can help you avoid many health and beauty problems.

Besides the use of a good sunscreen and clothing pieces that help with that protection, there are now apps for your smartphone that can help with the control of sun exposure.

There are many apps that inform you of the UV index of the region you are in. This information is very important so you can plan your day outside and avoid burning. Although sunscreen should be used frequently, in days of a high UV index the exposure should be done more carefully and some hours of the day are more dangerous than others. The app UV Index Widget Worldwide, has a special tab for personalized safety information and recommendations for your skin regarding when the risk of getting sunburn is higher. There is also the app UV Index Now – UVI mate that also specializes on personalized skin recommendations to avoid sunburns with notifications to help you identify the best time to be outside. More similar apps are UVLens, My UV Index, Wolfram Sun exposure app, TANtastic and others that can be easily found on your app store.

If some strange mole or spot appears on your skin, you can use apps like Miiskin Skin Tracker, Molescope, SkinVision and others that will help you monitor and map them over time. Some will provide a preliminary diagnostic and indicate if it is necessary to visit a dermatologist (during the appointment, the pictures of these changes can also help the doctor diagnose and indicate the correct treatment as well).

Whatever you choose to do, everything helps on your skin beauty and health, keeping your skin care safe and fun using these new technologies.

Why are calcium hydroxyapatite fillers so popular?

The use of dermal fillers, classified as medical devices by the FDA, are a big trend in the dermatological field. Their primary action is mechanical, providing a filling effect and not pharmacological.

With that in mind, some substances like the Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) are adapted for use in nonsurgical treatment options for facial rejuvenation. The formulation that is sold on the market is composed of CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel vehicle and although it can be long-lasting, it is not a permanent procedure.

It is highly compatible with human tissue and is mostly used to improve wrinkles, nasolabial folds, chin lines and other sulcus and lines that appear during the aging process. But it is not recommended to improve lips volume, fine lines around the mouth and under the eyes, due to the different skin characteristics in these areas.

It also acts as a collagen biostimulator, and will gradually provide after application new tissue formation through neocollagenesis, elastin production, angiogenesis, and dermal cell proliferation. This is great as one substance will lead to both immediate filling effects and creating long-term changes in the skin as well.

The application usually lasts up to one year and more but in some cases, a maintenance session should be booked to guarantee the desired effects. The only cases that the CaHA fillers are not recommended are patients that are currently with oral herpes or similar infections, uncontrolled diabetes, blood-clotting problems, pregnant or breast-feeding or in case of allergy to CaHA or other ingredients in the formulation.

The most popular plants to be used in this method are lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and many others that you can find in guides on the shops that sell these products. They can give positive benefits such as relaxation, improvement in anxiety, better sleep and; provide aid to depression, easing muscle and body aches, promoting blood circulation and even in the improvement of digestive problems.

These effects happen because the essential oils have the capacity of interacting with the brain and the nervous system.

The portable and ready to use diffusers are available in many different styles and are specially created to provide aromatherapy moments for the user. This is trending now because long periods indoors can lead to some symptoms that can be improved by aerial diffusion and may even avoid a doctor appointment.

Although there are many benefits in this complementary treatment, there are some dangerous effects that may cause if not properly used. This therapy is not recommended for people who have allergies (like asthma) and should be checked before use with doctors especially in cases of previous eczema, psoriasis, epilepsy, and hypertension patients.
