What are chapped lips?

Now, we understand that many of you are already familiar with chapped lips. However, for those unfamiliar with the term, ‘chapped lips’ is a non-medical term that refers to dry and cracked lips. Additionally, scaling, redness, swelling, itching, burning, and stinging may occur on your lips.

What contributes to chapped lips?

Chapped lips are frequently caused by cold and dry weather. Other possible causes include excessive sun exposure, allergic dermatitis, metabolic disorders such as thyroid imbalances, or even vitamin B complex deficiency. Another common cause of chapped lips is irritation. This could be a result of lip licking, picking, or biting habits. Additionally, it could be due to allergic reactions to lip cosmetics or foods such as mango, citrus, and cinnamon.

How can chapped lips be avoided?

Maintain lip hydration to avoid chapped and dry lips. You can moisturize your lips with emollients that are fragrance-free. Invest in thicker ointments rather than oils and moisturize regularly throughout the day. Additionally, you can use sunblock and reapply it every couple of hours when you step outside. Finally, maintain proper hydration by drinking plenty of water.

What are the most common errors made when dealing with chapped lips?

When it comes to healing and preventing chapped lips, there are a few ingredients to avoid. Eucalyptus, lanolin, salicylic acid, and flavorings and fragrances are just a few of these. You must adhere to the philosophy of “less is more.”
