The Use Of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound On Face Lifting Procedures

0

Face Lifting procedures can be done in a variety of techniques, such as laser therapy, chemical peelings, radiofrequency, Botox and surgeries. These procedures usually act in one aspect of the loss of elasticity and laxity that comes with the aging process or are invasive and can cause great discomfort.

Although more drastic results will be provided by face lifting surgery, it is a complicated procedure that does not please all patients. As an alternative, there is the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) which has been recently introduced as a new treatment modality for skin tightening and rejuvenation.

It reaches the same layers of skin of a surgical facelift using an ultrasonic wave that heats the tissues of the skin, muscles, and fat of the face, leading to their shrinking and stimulating the formation of new collagen. The body transducers of the equipment deliver ultrasound energy evenly in the subcutaneous tissue, which destroys the fat cells and naturally eliminates them from the body.

It has minor side effects, like flushed skin after the procedure, which should disappear after a few hours. Usually, more than one session is needed to obtain the desired results and maintenance every few months is recommended.

The equipment goes under the name of Ultraformer III and can be used in other parts of the body, like breast, buttocks, abdomen, thighs, and shoulders.

The treatment is done in around 30 minutes and the patients can return to daily activities immediately after. It is a great alternative to face lifting that requires a resting period to avoid complications.

How Does Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work And How It Will Benefit My Skin?

0

Injectable Hyaluronic Acid (also known as fillers) is a temporary procedure for the treatment of aging signs, especially wrinkles and fine lines. They usually last up to 18 months and are considered safe.  Side effects exist but are mild.

How Does Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work And How It Will Benefit My Skin?
How Does Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work And How It Will Benefit My Skin?

The Hyaluronic Acid itself is a substance produced by the human body, mainly in the joints, eye and skin. It attracts water, so the skin will be more hydrated and voluminous after application, which is an interesting effect because during the aging process the fat, muscles, bones, and skin get thinner and accentuate the aging signs. The hyaluronic acid injections work providing immediate results in these regions and the skin look younger and brighter.

There are many brands that produce this type of fillers and although the molecule is always the same, the manufacturer might change the particle size, consistency and viscosity of the gel and concentration of hyaluronic acid. These differences can change the result, so it is important to find the right one for you.

It can be applied in many different skin regions, from face, to hands to ears and the efficacy might change depending on the applied area, so an appointment with a reliable professional is important to guarantee that the procedure will be done safely and with the right products.

On the face, the most common applications are on the cheek and lips to provide greater volume and on the jawline to contour and define the region. It will improve the wrinkles and lines, leaving them in a smoother appearance. Another very interesting medical application of this substance is to fill scars and dark circles under the eyes.

Is Belotero Dermal Filler Right for Me?

0

Belotero is a line of cosmetic dermal fillers that help to reduce the appearance of lines and folds in facial skin.

  • They’re injectable fillers with a hyaluronic acid base.
  • This product line includes fillers of different consistencies for use on both fine lines and severe folds.
  • It’s used mostly used on the cheeks, nose, lips, chin, and around the eyes.
  • The procedure takes anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes.

Safety

  • It was approved by the FDA in 2011.
  • After receiving an injection, you might notice some temporary swelling and redness at the injection site.
  • Don’t get this dermal filler if you have a history of severe allergies.

Convenience

  • A plastic surgeon or physician can administer a Belotero injection in their office.
  • You won’t have to undergo any allergy testing before your appointment.
  • It requires minimal recovery time. You can return to your usual activities almost immediately after your appointment.

Effectiveness

  • You’ll notice results almost immediately after getting a Belotero injection.
  • This lasts for 6 to 18 months, depending the type used and the area being treated.

What is Belotero?

Belotero is an injectable dermal filler with a hyaluronic acid base. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in your skin. It binds with water, which helps to plump up your skin and make it appear smoother. Over time, your body absorbs the hyaluronic acid in Belotero.

It was originally approved by the FDA in 2011 to fill in moderate to severe nasolabial folds, also called laugh lines. However, the company has since expanded its line of products to include fillers of different consistencies for treating different types of lines.

For example, Belotero Soft is used for very fine lines, while Belotero Volume is used to restore volume and plump up the cheeks, nose, and lips.

It is safe for most people. However, its safety for people under the age of 18 or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding is unknown. You should also avoid this if you have a history of severe or multiple allergies, especially to Gram-positive proteins.

This Tiny Machine Promises to Shock Away Your Period Cramps

In what feels like a rare medical innovation in the female reproductive health realm, a new company based in Israel called Livia has promised a way to cure us all of our debilitating cramps without any painkillers. That’s right. Unhand your bottles of ibuprofen and Midol, because there’s a (potential) new solution in town, and it’s basically a tiny little robot that vibrates/low-key shocks your cramps away.

If you think this sounds great, you’re not alone. Livia launched an Indiegogo campaign earlier this month, and with a month still left to match funding, the device has more than quadrupled its goal of $50,000 with $202,973 raised and counting. That’s a lot of money. I’m not sure how many bottles of painkillers or individual heating pads that would buy … but it’s probably more than you could use in your lifetime.

So how does this little machine work? If you’ve ever been to a physical therapist or a trainer, you’re familiar with the technology. Bari Kaplan, Livia’s chief medical advisor, told Cosmopolitan.com that it’s basically a small version of an electrical stimulation machine you might find in a doctor’s office. Livia uses a set frequency that’s designed to best penetrate and soothe the muscles that cramp up and cause you awful pain when you’re on your period, and it transmits that frequency through the little sticky pads you stick on your lower stomach.

“Mainly it’s working on a thing that we call the gate pathway,” Kaplan said. “It blocks any pain sensation message that’s going through the spinal cord. Everything else will continue normally, it doesn’t change the flow [of your period].”

Kaplan explained that the device is so safe, you can wear it all night long. So if you’re a person who has a tendency to get the kind of cramps that literally wake you up in the middle of the night, this could (feasibly) be a solution, or at least an alternative to keeping ibuprofen on your nightstand. The battery lasts for 15 hours, as Livia CEO Chen Nachum told Cosmopolitan.com, and is rechargeable with a USB cord, like your iPhone.

Beauty Magnet Is the Skincare Tool We All Need

Beauty Magnet founder, Liz Kennedy, accidentally fell into her career. As an esthetician in nursing school, she dreamt about working side by side with plastic surgeons. During her studies, she side-hustled as a spokesperson for skincare brands. Eventually, Liz became an on-air TV host for the home shopping channel, QVC, and the host of the makeover segment of The Steve Harvey Show. Liz realized she had a passion and love for explaining skincare products, practices, and regimens….and the rest was history.

Liz Kennedy, Beauty Magnet Founder

Everything you can imagine is real

Fast forward to today, four years later, and this powerhouse entrepreneur has just launched her first skincare tool. Liz realized she couldn’t be the only woman constantly losing her beauty tools (us too, Liz, us too). She took inspired action and creatively designed each component in Beauty Magnet to be held together with magnets. All those years you spent buying and subsequently losing tweezers? Thanks to Liz, this will be the last pair you ever buy. In traditional Liz fashion (check out her Instagram and you’ll know what we mean), the rose gold design aesthetics are off the chart. It looks like jewelry on our vanities.

When asked why she named her skincare tool, Beauty Magnet, Liz replied that there is so much more to the name than what you may initially think. She is a true believer in focused intention. Liz wants every woman to know that she can be her own magnet.  All is takes is self-belief and perserverance.

Your 5 favorite tools…magnetized!

Liz broke down for us the components of the Beauty Magnet for us. The dermaroller features 350 needles to painlessly (and yes it’s painless, we promise) create little microchannels in the skin. These little sites send messages to the body that the skin needs be repaired. This increases cell turnover, regenerates the skin, and ultimately makes it firmer and more youthful. Liz recommends using the dermaroller three nights a week with peptides and hydrating serums (not retinols or actives like vitamin C). Be sure to replace the head once a month.

Tixel – Skin Tightening Treatment

0

Tixel – for facial wrinkles, loose skin and hyperpigmentation on the neck, hands and face. Tixel is a new skin tightening and contouring procedure designed to safely treat facial wrinkles without significant pain or downtime.

It uses tiny heated cones that are pressed across the face and neck to stimulate collagen, tighten the skin and allow for deeper penetration of youth activating serums. A recent scientific study demonstrated Tixel provides excellent results with low pain, low downtime and quick patient recovery.

  • Low downtime – you can return home immediate after procedure
  • Long-lasting results – lasts 12-24 months
  • Unrivalled expertise – performed by leading oculoplastic surgeon

Most people start to see results after just one treatment but need a recommended course of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with lasting improvement in skin tightness and tone for up to 12-24 months.

Tixel Eyelid Lift vs Blepharoplasty surgery?

Surgical blepharoplasty is excellent for correcting moderate to severe loose eyelid skin and puffy eyelids. It is still the “gold standard” for patients seeking blepharoplasty, with impressive results lasting more than 10 years, for a few weeks of downtime.

Tixel is a new innovative way of tightening loose skin and is an impressive alternative to surgery, allowing a gentle correction of moderate loose skin. For eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) often 3-4 sessions may be required, which are performed every 4-6 weeks. Perfect for people who want to avoid surgery a gradual, scar less correction and not alter their “look” significantly.

Does Tixel hurt?

Local anaesthetic cream is applied on cleansed skin for 30 mins. After disinfection, the bloodless Tixel treatment will begin; most patients feel some heat and discomfort, like a sunburn. At the end of the session, there will be redness with small black/brown micro crusts, in the treated area, which may be visible for 1-2 days. Following treatment, the eyelids swell temporarily, which settle in 48-72 hours, and may require use of oral anti-inflammatory tablets.

The pinkness of the skin can take 1-2 weeks to settle. It is important not to scratch, pick or rub the area treated as a pinkish skin discoloration or hypo / hyperpigmentation could persist. It is important not to use exfoliant / glycolic or retinol-based products for 2 weeks after Tixel, It is important to protect the skin from direct sunlight for 4 weeks after.

Devices to Measure Skin Elasticity – What Are They and How They Work

Skin elasticity is a very interesting parameter as it is related to skin aging and its consequences, such as sagging, appearance of wrinkles, spots, and others. A young skin is very elastic and that changes during the years, according to how you treat your skin and general life habits.

There are a few devices on the market that measure skin elasticity. These are mostly used in research labs or in dermatological clinics to study the performance of a product and the skin changes in real time. Some devices are very portable and easy to use, and others need training, and the results are more complex.

The most used and recommended one is the Cuto meter, by the company Courage and Khazaka. It has a suction method based on a negative pressure to measure how much skin is sucked by the device and that is associated with skin elasticity because a young and elastic skin is firm and does not present high values of suction.

Another device is the ElastiMeter, by a company called Delfin. It is easy to use and fully portable. It can be used on its own to quick routines or adapted to specific software that will gather all the obtained data. It does not work with skin suction but instead has a reference plate with a metallic probe at the center. It is pressed against the skin and the deformation of the skin is measured without altering the skin structure.

There are others similar devices like the Dermaflex, Dermalab and Tonometry and all with different principles to present the data of skin elasticity. A great skin elasticity influences life as a whole and is obtained by healthy habits like the use of sunscreen, cosmetic products that are right for the type of skin and other non-related actions like a good sleeping cycle and adequate water intake.

What Is BBL Laser Skin Treatment?

0

Broadband light (BBL) laser therapy, also known as a photofacial, is a generally safe and effective treatment for a variety of skin concerns.

Dermatologists use this fairly gentle procedure to:

  • treat skin conditions such as rosacea, spider veins, and acne
  • help minimize the appearance of sun damage, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • even out skin tone and texture

Read on to learn more about the uses of BBL laser therapy, its effectiveness, and what you can expect during and after a session.

What is BBL used for?

BBL is a type of laser therapy used to enhance and brighten your complexion by treating skin concerns and stimulating your body’s production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that helps give structure to your skin, among other things.

Usually, Broadband light laser therapy targets your face, neck, chest, arms, and hands — though it’s possible to treat all areas.

BBL treatments help enhance the appearance of skin damaged by factors such as:

  • sun exposure
  • harmful skin care products
  • pollution

Dermatologists use Broadband light laser treatments for conditions such as:

  • rosacea
  • acne
  • vascular lesions

It enhances your skin’s firmness, elasticity, and pigmentation (coloring). It may also boost your body’s self-healing ability to regrow healthy skin.

BBL may also reduce the appearance of:

  • sun damage
  • fine lines
  • wrinkles
  • scars
  • large pores
  • dull skin
  • pigmented lesions (freckles, age spots)
  • redness
  • uneven skin tone and texture
  • loose or sagging skin
  • melasma and hyperpigmentation

What exactly happens during BBL treatment?

During your initial BBL consultation, a dermatologist will examine your skin to determine which areas to target. Then they’ll create a treatment plan involving multiple laser therapy sessions.

Broadband light laser therapy treatments usually last around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

During the procedure, the physician will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area and possibly a topical anesthetic. You’ll wear safety shields, goggles, or glasses to protect your eyes.

You may experience sensations, pulses, and mild pain. Your skin may feel slightly warm and appear slightly red, swollen, or sunburned.

BBL treatments use a broad spectrum of wavelengths to target your skin’s underlying layers. Your skin absorbs this light energy, which promotes collagen production and eliminates pigmented (darker) skin cells.
