Natural Beauty: Importance of Ayurvedic Marma Points Facial Massage

Ayurveda is a traditional Indian alternative medicine system that has a long, rich history of use. Under Ayurvedic medicine, it’s believed that the five elements of the world have a huge impact on a person’s health. Marma points are specific anatomical locations in your body through which the energy of these elements is believed to flow. Marma points therapy is the practice of stimulating these spots through gentle massage therapy.

What are Marma points?

Ayurvedic medicine — and ideas about the existence of life energy and marma points — has been around since roughly 2 B.C.

In Ayurvedic medicine, marma points are anatomical locations in your body where a concentration of life energy exists. Marma points are said to contain the three doshas:

  • vata (air and space)
  • kapha (earth and water)
  • pitta (fire and water)

These doshas are believed to be linked to your physical and emotional well-being.

Like traditional Chinese acupuncture, Ayurvedic medicine believes that stimulation of the marma points can improve your physical and mental health.

It’s also believed that injury to the marma points can result in negative health effects in the body and in some cases, further injury and even death.

Location of Marma points

It’s said that there are 107 marma points in various locations around the human body:

  • 11 marma points in your limbs.
  • 26 marma points in your trunk.
  • 37 marma points in your head and neck region.
  • 33 marma points located elsewhere in your body.

What is Marma Points Therapy?

Ayurvedic medicine proposes marma points therapy as a method of changing or improving your biochemistry.

It’s believed to release stagnant energy and stimulate your internal organs, hormones, and other chemicals to help meet the needs of your body.

Marma points therapy is done by gently stimulating the marma points around your body through massage therapy.

Generally, this is performed by a trained massage therapist who has experience with Ayurvedic medicine. These massage therapists have extensive knowledge of the locations and functions of the various marma points.

Coconut Oil for Your Hair: Nourishing Benefits, Uses and Tips

0

Coconut oil is often said to be the best oil to use on your hair to reduce protein loss and keep it looking healthy. People use it for all sorts of things, from cooking and cleaning to moisturizing their skin and removing their makeup.

Coconut oil is an extremely versatile health and beauty product. Others often use coconut oil to help improve the health and condition of their hair.

Why Coconut Oil Is Better at Protecting Your Hair Than Other Oils

Given the current popularity of coconut oil, this would be easy to dismiss as a trend. However, there is some evidence behind this claim.

To see which oil was best for protecting hair health, the researchers measured the amount of protein the hair lost after each of these treatments.

They found that coconut oil was better at preventing protein loss than both the mineral and sunflower oils when applied either before or after the hair was washed.

In fact, coconut oil came out on top in all of their studies and reduced protein loss in hair that was undamaged, bleached, chemically treated and UV exposed.

Rubbing Oil on Your Hair Before or After Washing Helps Prevent Damage

There are a few ways you can apply oil to your hair to help protect it from damage.

First, applying oil to your hair before it’s washed can help reduce the amount of damage it sustains during washing and while it’s wet.

Interestingly, hair is most vulnerable to damage when it’s wet. This is because of subtle, structural changes that occur when it absorbs water.

When you wet your hair, the thick, central cortex soaks up the water and swells, causing a structural change in the cuticle.

The hair cuticle is actually made up of flat, overlapping scales that are attached towards the root end of your hair and point towards the tip.

When the cortex of your hair absorbs water and swells up, these scales are pushed outward so they stick up. This makes wet hair much easier to damage, especially when brushing or styling.

Applying oil to your hair before you wash it can reduce the amount of water absorbed by the hair shaft and the degree to which the cuticle scales “stick up.” This makes it less prone to damage while it’s wet.

Second, coating your hair in oil after you wash it helps make it softer and smoother. This reduces the amount of friction caused by styling, making your hair less likely to snag and break.

Body Peels Can Be The Answer To Skin Discoloration

0

Body Peels: Are you looking for a quick way to brighten dark underarms or your bikini area? Let’s just say that it takes a long time to correct skin discoloration in these areas. Yes, home remedies are great, but if you need quicker action, it is best to seek professional help.

There are tons of reasons why you can experience visibly darker skin on your underarms and bikini areas. From hormonal issues to disease-related the reasons are often not known without medical consultation. One of the most common and treatable causes of this discoloration is hyperpigmentation, regardless of skin tone. It occurs when the skin on these areas produces an abundance of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. Accumulation of dead skin cells on these areas can further contribute to the discoloration.

It is absolutely normal to face skin discoloration in these areas, and so it is only fair that you get it checked with your dermat. That being said, the best way to get rid of this skin discoloration is through exfoliation and some skin brightening agents and luckily there are treatments for that. The treatments in the spotlight to treat body skin discoloration is chemical peels.

You may already be familiar with these peeling solutions as many OTC products are introduced in the market for you to use at home. While these peels are fairly mild, the chemical peels offered by dermatologists for skin discolouration on your underarms and bikini area are quite different.

Things You Must Do If You Have Oily Skin

0

If you have oily skin, you are probably constantly concerned with greasy texture, acne, pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Excess oil on the skin can result in a number of illnesses and make the skin appear unattractive. Hormone variations, such as those experienced throughout puberty, can cause the skin to become greasy and cause acne breakouts. As a result, I’ve listed a few things you can do to get rid of it below.

Things You Must Do If You Have Oily Skin
Things You Must Do If You Have Oily Skin

1] Wash your face day and at night– Choose a face wash that combats shine and oil without removing natural oils. Look for chemicals like benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, and salicylic acid if you have oily skin.

2] Use non-comedogenic products– Makeup is the most prevalent cause of clogged pores. You can use non-comedogenic skincare and makeup if you have an oily/problematic face.

3] Always moisturize- You might feel that moisturizing an oily face will exacerbate the condition. By skipping this critical stage, your skin will produce additional oil after it is dried. Prevent this by hydrating your skin. Look for aloe vera, glycerine, and hyaluronic acid instead of coconut oil, petroleum, and cocoa butter.

4] Always wear sunscreen—Choose a solution that is lightweight and contains mineral blockers such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

5] Exfoliate weekly—It is critical not to exfoliate excessively, as this can result in an increase in oil production—once or twice a week should be sufficient.

Sinus Massage — The Surprising Way to Banish Headaches

0

Headaches are the most common medical complaint in the US. While it’s tempting to blame them on things like muscle strain or emotional stress, plenty of headaches — including painful migraines — can actually be caused by your sinuses. When it comes to treating sinus headaches, medication is one treatment option, but many medicines are ineffective — or worse, come with unwanted side effects.

How can sinus massage relieve headaches?

Your sinuses perform an important role in keeping harmful germs out of your body. Located behind your cheeks, eyes, and forehead, your sinuses produce a mucus barrier that traps germs before they have a chance to get into your throat and lungs. To stay healthy, your sinuses are continually draining into your nose, getting rid of “old” mucus and producing a fresh barrier to keep germs at bay.

Sometimes, though, your sinuses get inflamed and swollen, usually as a result of allergies, infections, or even airborne irritants. When your sinuses are swollen, they don’t drain properly, and pressure builds up inside. Eventually, that pressure leads to headaches, and sometimes other symptoms like facial pain.

Sinus massage helps relieve headaches caused by sinus pressure and congestion by gently breaking up mucus and encouraging normal sinus drainage. Without resorting to medicines that can make you groggy or may be ineffective in providing complete relief. As your sinuses drain, pressure decreases, and that means your pain can subside, as well.

What happens during a sinus massage?

We use special techniques for sinus massage, customizing every massage based on each client’s unique symptoms. We start by learning about your symptoms, which might include facial pain or pressure, nasal congestion, and even persistent post-nasal drip. Then, we map out a sinus massage treatment based on helping relieve those symptoms so you feel better.

Your massage will focus primarily on your four sinus cavities:

  • Frontal sinuses above your eyes
  • Ethmoid sinuses above the bridge of your nose, between your eyes
  • Maxillary sinuses in your cheekbones
  • Sphenoid sinuses located behind the inner corners of your eyes

Get To Know All About the Undiscovered Skincare Benefits of Coffee

0

While coffee is most commonly used as a beverage, it is also gaining popularity as an alternative skincare solution. Coffee is high in antioxidants and may aid in the battle against free radicals, which can cause damage to healthy skin cells.

Here are several ways to incorporate coffee into your skincare routine:

  1. Dark circles

Combine 1 tablespoon coffee powder, 1 teaspoon honey, and a few drops vitamin E oil in a small bowl. Apply this mixture carefully under your eyes and remove it after 15 minutes.

  1. Acne therapy

Mix 3 tbsp. of grounded coffee and 2 tbsp. of brown sugar. Add 3 tablespoons coconut oil into the coffee mixture until a thick scrub forms. Apply this scrub on your entire face, avoid delicate areas such as your eyes. Allow 10 minutes before rinsing with clean water.

  1. Anti-aging properties

In a bowl, combine coffee powder and cocoa powder and add small amounts of milk to create a face mask. Apply 2 drops of honey and 2 drops of lemon juice to the mixture and pat your face dry. Allow 20 minutes before rinsing with clean water. This mixture can be kept for three days in the refrigerator.

  1. Decreased cellulite

Caffeine in coffee aids in cellulite reduction by dilating the blood vessels beneath the skin and increasing the blood flow.

  1. Radiant skin

In a bowl, combine 1/4 cup coffee grounds and 3 tablespoons aloe vera gel. Gently massage the scrub into your face or body for ten minutes. Rinse it thoroughly with cold water. Aloe vera gel is incredibly calming and aids with skin hydration. A gentle massage with this scrub stimulates the cells and imparts a healthy, natural glow to the skin.

What Home Remedies Can Help With Bad Breath?

0

Bad breath is a common issue, and there are many different causes. Potential remedies include water, green tea, and herbal rinses.

Persistent bad breath, or halitosis, is usually due to bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria produce gases that can cause a smell. The odor occurs when the bacteria break down sugars and starches in the foods people eat.

Sometimes, halitosis may signal something more serious, such as gum disease or tooth decay. It is important that people go for regular dental checkups so that a dentist can treat these issues early.

Halitosis could also signal an underlying health issue elsewhere in the body.

This article outlines eight natural home remedies for bad breath. We also provide tips on when to see a doctor.

Water

Dry mouth is a condition that can cause halitosis as well as other oral health problems.

Dry mouth occurs when the salivary glands inside the mouth do not produce enough saliva to rinse food debris from the mouth. This helps to control levels of oral bacteria.

Many different factors can cause dry mouth. The most common cause is dehydration. Medications and diet can also influence the moisture in the mouth.

Green tea

Green tea is an antioxidant-rich tea made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant.

The most abundant antioxidant in green tea is Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Research suggests EGCG may have many beneficial effects on health.

Both green tea extract and EGCG reduced the growth of S. moorei cultures, although green tea extract showed the greatest effects. This suggests that other chemicals within green tea may also have antibacterial properties.

Herbal rinses

Dental plaque and gum inflammation, or gingivitis, are common causes of halitosis.

A 2014 study investigated the effects of an herbal mouth rinse on plaque, gingivitis, and levels of oral bacteria. The rinse contained tea tree oil, cloves, and basil, each having antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Researchers divided the 40 participants into two groups. Over 21 days, one group used a commercial mouth rinse, while the other used the herbal rinse.

Participants who used either rinse showed significant reductions in plaque and gingivitis. However, the herbal rinse also significantly reduced levels of bacteria in the mouth, whereas the commercial rinse did not.

These findings suggest that a mouth rinse containing tea tree oil, clove, and basil, may help to improve oral health, so reducing halitosis.

5 tips from a physiotherapist to prevent back pain

0

Low back pain and neck pain are the most common medical conditions / complaints I’ve been treating as a physiotherapist practicing in Pune since 10 years. Little factors such as poor postural habits over time can lead to these painful conditions. That pain medication you’re swallowing isn’t the final answer and definitely not a long term solution. A physiotherapist can help you though! All you need to do is adopt the correct posture during ADL (Activities of Daily Living).

Physical activity also plays a vital role in whole body wellness but adopting Correct Form during activities of daily living and exercise is KEY! In his regard I am sharing a few physiotherapy hacks which can prevent these kind of problems.

1. Travel without putting uneven stress on your back
The manner in which we lift and carry bags and luggage puts a whole lot of force on our backs and any rotational or bending force acting on the back can lead to severe back pain. Few examples to give are bending and lifting weights, pulling a bag from the baggage counter at the airport or placing a heavy bag in the overhead cabin above.

2. Maintain a good posture while sitting and standing. Don’t drop your head to the gadgets
A bad posture while sitting, standing or working on a laptop puts uneven pressure on the spine, giving rise to numerous muscular imbalances and a whole lot of postural faults. A bad static posture slows down the circulation which in turn reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrition coming to the muscles. This gives a chance for early degenerative changes in spine.

Discover the Power and Freedom of Cordless Hair Styling

Cordless hairstyling tools are not new, they’ve been around for a while, but they have been somewhat disappointing. The Advantages of Going Cordless

So, what really are the benefits to having a cordless curling iron or flat iron? Let’s talk first about freedom. A cordless styling tool lets you style anywhere, anytime. You can be in any room of your home untethered from an electrical outlet. No extension cord needed to reach that plug behind the dresser on the other side of the room. Having no cord lets you handle the styler in the most comfortable and convenient way that works for you. You can switch hands quickly without having to spin around to reposition the cord. You can put the styler down onto your vanity or dresser with no concern that the weight of the cord or someone tripping over the cord will pull the appliance onto the floor.

When it comes to storage, there’s no cord to coil up and stuff into a drawer. Your cabinet, vanity or dresser top remains neat, tidy and less cluttered. Cordless stylers pack neatly into your handbag, a carry-all for the gym or in a suitcase for travel. Now you can style your hair any place life takes you any time of the day or night.
