How to Apply Your Eye Cream Properly

0

The skin around your eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your face, so this is often where you’ll see signs of aging first. It also means you need to pay special care and attention when using an eye cream. Here we’ll discuss what to look for in an eye cream formula to target your specific under-eye concerns, and how to apply it for best results.

What Ingredients to Look for in Your Eye Cream

Eye creams can help reduce puffiness and crow’s feet, brighten up dark circles and make your face look younger and more awake. Some formulas are designed to address one of these concerns, while others are do-it-all products. Here are some ingredients to look for when seeking out an eye cream:

  • Antioxidants, like vitamin C or niacinamide: protect your eyes from future damage from sun, pollution, stress and lack of sleep
  • Retinoids: help stimulate cell turnover
  • Peptides: help increase elastin and collagen production
  • Arnica, caffeine and vitamin K: target blood vessels to increase circulation and reduce swelling
  • Hyaluronic acid and shea butter: hydrate and seal in moisture around the eye area to prevent fine lines

How to Apply Your Eye Cream

STEP 1: Apply a pea-size amount on your ring finger.

Eye creams are super concentrated, so a pea-size amount is all you need for both eyes. For that delicate area, use your ring finger since it naturally has the lightest touch. You don’t want to put too much pressure on the skin.

STEP 2: Apply small dots from the inner corner underneath your eye to your brow bone.

To apply, start at the inner corner underneath your eye, applying small dots in a semi-circle up to your brow bone. Gently tap in that semi-circle pattern to stimulate circulation until the product is fully absorbed. Be sure not to pull or stretch the skin while you’re doing this.

Remember: Don’t get too close to your eye to avoid irritation. Also, unless the product label directs you to, avoid applying on or near your eyelids.

STEP 3: Wait before applying concealer.

After applying your eye cream, wait about 90 seconds before applying concealer or other skin care products to give it time to fully absorb.

Is Face Wash the Most Important Step in Your Routine? (This Buzzy New Brand Says Yes)

0

Your cleanser may be the first step in your skin care routine, but it’s probably the last one you think about. While serums, masks and moisturizers get all the credit, face wash tends to be forgotten as soon as it’s washed down the drain.

HoliFrog wants to change that. The new brand, founded by two beauty industry veterans, has just launched with a collection of face washes designed to make the most of your regimen’s most underrated step. According to co-founder Emily Parr, face wash is actually more important than most of us realize. “When you’re washing your face, your pores are open and at their most permeable,” Parr says. Washing your face, she explains, is “an opportunity to not only cleanse and detoxify the skin, but to flood it with vital nutrients, antioxidants, oils and enzymes.”

As far as those treatment products that get all the glory? “All of the expensive serums and creams can’t give you the glowing skin they promise if you’re not working on a properly cleansed, fresh canvas,” Parr points out. “Cleanser counts, big time!”

Read on for all you need to know about this buzzy new brand.

What’s with the name?

The “holi” in HoliFrog comes from “holistic”—a nod to the idea that every part of day-to-day life, from sleep to stress to screen time, affects the look of our skin. And the frog? It’s part mascot, part metaphor. A frog’s skin is semi-permeable, which means it absorbs water and oxygen from its environment. When our skin is wet (i.e. when it’s being cleansed), our pores are better able to absorb moisture and nutrients—similar to the way frogs soak up their surroundings.

Why focus on face wash?

“Cleansers felt like the ‘forgotten’ category,” Parr says, even though most of us wash our faces multiple times a day. “Cleanser is a truly non-negotiable step, so we are looking at that as an opportunity to prove how a quality cleanser can actually simplify the rest of your routine.” Formulas with antioxidants, vitamins, non-fragrant plant oils and extracts, and cell-communicating ingredients make cleansing a step toward healthier skin, not just a chore.

Which products should you try?

HoliFrog offers formulas that speak to a range of skin’s moods, from dry and sensitized, to oily and acne-prone, to somewhere in between. Parr swears by using a different wash as skin’s needs change throughout the day (a gentle wash first thing in the morning, for example; or an exfoliating wash after a sweaty workout). No matter which wash you choose, she recommends spending one to two minutes cleansing your face in order to let the ingredients sink in: “It takes 60 seconds to emulsify and whisk off surface grime and makeup, 30 seconds to dislodge dirt and break up sebum, then another 30 seconds for the ingredients to penetrate.” Here’s a guide to the brand’s all-star lineup of face washes

Why To Use Gel Sunscreen For Oily Skin?

Gel Sunscreen is not an inconspicuous mystery now, because each of you must have heard of this term. It has become a crucial part of our lives. Sunscreen is essential to protect our skin from harmful sun rays, other environmental aggressors like pollution and premature aging.

One of these types is gel based sunscreens. Gel sunscreen for oily skin is one of the innovative formulae which solve the major issues that came up by using cream sunscreens earlier, especially with oily skin type. Gel-based sunscreen for oily skin is a blessing.

1. What Is Oily Skin Type?

People with oily skin face many issues while tackling their skin problems. The oily and acne prone skin type involves excessive sebum production and the problem of open pores. These two problems make it difficult for people to choose accurate and appropriate skincare products. Sunscreens are also one of them.

2. What Is Sunscreen?

Sunscreens are the skincare products manufactured to protect skin from the harmful environmental aggressors i.e. sun rays by absorption, reflection, or dispersion.

How To Apply Sunscreen Gel For Better Results?

The right application of sunscreen is very important to get better results.

“According to a survey, many people apply the sunscreen quantity less than the amount used for SPF determination”

The very first thing is the application of the right amount of sunscreen to get full protection. To get the correct idea, use the teaspoon formula of applying sunscreen.

  • 1 teaspoon for the overall head, face, and neck.
  • one teaspoon each to the hands and arms.
  • 1 teaspoon each to the front and the back torso
  • 2 teaspoons each to the lower extremities i.e. hip to toes
  • Total: 9 teaspoons for the whole body

Follow this rule and apply to the parts you need protection.

The other very essential factor is the reapplication of sunscreen.

“According to research, applying sunscreen 15 minutes before going out, followed by full reapplication within the first hour of sun exposure helps to obtain significant coverage” . Read More…….

Makeup Hacks: 3 Ways you can use your favourite lipstick apart from just putting it on your lips

Makeup Hacks: 3 Ways you can use your favourite lipstick apart from just putting it on your lips

We’ve all been aware of beauty hacks and how they manage to save both time and effort. Hacks are practical and it is always about making use of what you have and creating a masterpiece. Let us tell you that we’re here today to do exactly that and teach you how you can use your favourite lipstick in 3 different ways apart from just your lips.

1.Blush

One of the easiest uses of lipstick is to just take a dab of it on your finger and use it as a blush. Blend it on the apples of your cheeks for a matching lip and cheek tint. This hack is best for days when you do not have a lot of products around but need a healthy glow. To be honest, we always have lipstick on us even when we do not feel like carrying the world in our bags. Since lipstick is in the form of a cream, it gives you a dewy glow compared to normal powder blushes.

2.Colour Corrector

This hack is for people who have intense dark spots and eye bags. All you need to do is apply a red lipstick under your eyes and on the dark spots. Blend it well and top it off with your normal base routine of concealing and foundation. See the difference it makes and thank us later!

3.Eyeliner

Coloured eyeliners are becoming immensely popular, so it’s time to take out your liquid mattes and use it as an eyeliner. This is a super simple way to switch up your look and make the most of your liquid lipsticks!

Easy DIY Detox Clay Face Mask

0

Only three ingredients in this DIY Detox Clay Face Mask which means there’s no reason not to whip it up! This DIY face mask is antibacterial, anti-fungal, soothing and perfect to use on acne breakouts. Plus, it’s made in under five minutes and smells amazing.

This homemade lavender clay mask makes the perfect addition to your pampering routine (so does this peppermint foot cream!). Made from bentonite clay which is known for its detoxifying and healing properties as well as a lavender essential oil.

3 Ingredient DETOX Clay Face Mask

I use this DIY face mask once per month and have for years. It soothes inflamed skin and helps keep my face feeling fresh and soft and not rundown.

Bentonite Clay For Skin

It’s been said that bentonite clay is a healing clay- and in my personal experience that’s beyond true. Bentonite clay can help skin with:

  • remove oil from the surface of the skin
  • reduce redness and inflammation
  • help detox the skin
  • soothe red bumps

Bentonite clay has many uses and a lot of people ingest it as well as use it topically. Personally, it’s one of my go-to remedies for red bumps or hives. I’ve used it multiple times and it works wonders.

Essentially, it is a detox clay.

A Clay Mask With… Vinegar?

You would think that the clay and vinegar would cancel each other out. One being very acidic. However, apple cider vinegar is no basic vinegar. It has been quoted to do almost everything- which you should probably take with a grain of salt 😉

That aside, I love this vinegar and do find that it reduces inflammation. I use it to combat both digestive issues, heartburn, and skin inflammations. But it also has a ton of benefits for the skin.

Apple cider vinegar can:

  • help soothe sunburns
  • works as a toner
  • is antibacterial and anti-fungal
  • can ease redness of bug bites

Which is why I use it for its clay mask. With so many soothing properties I’ve found it works wonders on inflamed skin.

What Essential Oils Should I Add To The Clay Mask?

This DIY clay mask is lavender based. Obviously the smell of lavender is super calming (I use it a lot in our sleepy time spray!) but I also use it to soothe any inflammation or redness.

I’m sure there are many other essential oils you can choose but lavender essential oils have worked for me time and time again to reduce irritation and inflammation of acne or “random red bumps” on my face and skin.

Notes On The DIY Lavender Face Mask

One thing to note with this mask is that you’ve got to use pure ingredients- only then will it be effective.

Meaning, make sure you use bentonite clay and not a knock off and look for pure, raw, un-strained apple cider vinegar (the one with the strings and mother still in the bottle). Only then will you reap the most benefits.

The Best Exfoliating Peels for Every Skin Concern

You may have traded a beach getaway for a picnic in the park this year, but the fact remains that the sun’s UV rays are more potent in the summer, and they can worsen concerns like dark spots, dullness and rough texture. Thankfully, exfoliating peels can help with these issues and more.

“As we get older, the top layer of our skin—the epidermis—turns over more slowly, and that leads to dull, hyperpigmented skin,” says Shari Marchbein, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “What peels do is remove those top layers of the skin to reveal healthy, glowy, dewy skin below.”

If you can’t get to your dermatologist’s office at this time, at-home exfoliating peels are a good alternative. While a chemical peel at your doctor’s office may use trichloroacetic acid (TCA), phenol or resorcinol, at-home exfoliating peels use gentler ingredients like alpha and beta hydroxy acids (such as lactic, glycolic and salicylic acids) at lower concentrations. “In-office peels may go into deeper epidermal layers, potentially the dermis, and really help with wrinkles and acne scars,” says Dr. Marchbein. “But at-home peels are also excellent to brighten skin, smooth texture and dramatically lighten spots.”

Do’s and Don’ts of Using a Face Peel

Before you dive in, here’s what you need to know about adding a peel to your routine.

Do Wear a (Physical) Sunscreen

Dermatologists recommend everyone wear sunscreen every day, but if you’re using a chemical exfoliant, it’s even more important. “You’re leaving your skin a little more exposed, since you are removing those top layers of the epidermis,” says Dr. Marchbein, who recommends a physical (or mineral) formula. “Physical sunscreens protect skin that hyperpigments easily by creating a literal barrier that reflects off the sun, while chemical sunscreen actually absorbs some of the heat, and can worsen pigmentation issues,” she explains.

Don’t Combine Peels with Physical Exfoliators

Going overboard on exfoliation can irritate skin and lead to eczema, redness, dryness, inflammation and acne breakouts. When using a chemical exfoliant like a peel, “Hold off on any scrubs made from granular particles,” says Whitney Bowe, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “I also recommend avoiding loofah or Buf-Pufs, and anything else abrasive on the skin.”

Do Incorporate Days of Repair

“People who exfoliate every day run into issues with their skin barrier, so I recommend spacing out your peels by four nights,” says Dr. Bowe. (If you have very sensitive skin, Dr. Marchbein recommends using a peel only once a week.) On off days, Dr. Bowe advises you use products with ingredients that restore the skin barrier, such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil and squalane.

The 7 Best Sheet Masks for Your Worst Skin Concerns

Sheet masks were probably 2014’s biggest beauty trend, and for good reason: They actually work. How? These masks, which are made of cotton, silk, plant pulp or bio-cellulose fiber, are designed to keep active ingredients in direct contact with your skin while blocking the air (and the contaminants in it) from interfering with the process. Keeping the air out also raises your skin’s temperature, forcing your pores to open up and allowing nutrients to penetrate more deeply.

But that’s just one of the reasons we love sheet masks. Here are 5 other reasons—plus, the best sheet mask we found for your worst skin concern.

1. They’re easy to put on.

Simply unfold the mask, align the holes with the corresponding parts of your face, press it down to secure it in place, relax for 10 to 15 minutes and then remove. No need to rinse! And because the formula has already been evenly distributed on the sheet, you can rest assured that every part of your face will get an equal dose of nutrients.

2. They’re hygienic to use.

Such is the beauty of disposable sheets: You use one, and then you toss it. And unlike those in jars and tubes, these sheets are individually packed in sealed packets, keeping them moist and sterile until you’re ready to use them.

3. They’re portable.

With traditional masks, you need running water, a sink, a towel and some post-rinse serums and moisturizers—but not with a sheet mask! You can take it anywhere and use it anytime. All you need are your fingers (which won’t get sticky, by the way), making it an ideal traveling companion.

4. They’re virtually mess-free.
