Simple Ways to Fight Pimples and Acne in Summers

0

Acne is a common problem. Whether you have acne-prone skin or you deal with those pesky pimples occasionally, we know you tend to worry even if you see a tiny red spot on your face. If you are someone who prefers pimple-free skin, you need to read this article. Breakouts are bad and can worsen in the summer season. However, we have some suggestions, which if you follow, will give you the best results. Yes, if you take some precautions, you will have glowing skin. Here is our guide on how to beat the blemishes this summer season.

What Are the Causes of Acne in Summers?

Heat and humidity during summers can make you sweat excessively. This causes skin cells to become much stickier than normal. Dead skin accumulates as debris on the outer surface and mixed with the viscous sebum it creates oxygen-negative environments under our skin where bacteria can multiply naturally. This causes inflammation of the skin leading to pimples.

How to Fight Pimples in the Summer Season

Here is how you can keep away that painful and blemishing acne and cure pimples in summer when the sun is out in all its glory.

1. Avoid Certain Foods and Drinks

The scorching heat makes us reach for sugary drinks during the summer. Staying hydrated is very important in summers, but you shouldn’t try to quench your thirst by consuming high-sugar drinks or alcoholic beverages. Sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks can increase the chances of breakouts on your face. Foods with high glycaemic index can spike blood-sugar levels which can increase the need for insulin in the blood. Greater production of insulin can also increase sebum production which can then clog the pores. You should avoid consuming peaches and cherries, and sugary drinks, carbonated drinks, alcoholic beverages and fried foods. Also, eat foods that promote bowel movements and stimulate the liver to flush out toxins regularly.

2. Opt for Oil-free Sunscreen

In the hot months of summer, people tend to slather sunscreen on their face, which is quite alright. But sunscreen usually are too oily and adding layer after layer of oily sunscreen on your face can prevent your skin from breathing. As a result, you will have clogged pores. So be wise and opt for mineral-based sunscreens that have titanium oxide or zinc oxide. These are lighter and help reduce the occurrence of summer acne.

How to Treat Dark Knuckles

0

Dark knuckles are one of the common problems that many people deal with. There can be several reasons behind dark knuckles. The main reason is the melanin that forms in the body, which causes hyperpigmentation. The reason for melanin formation is over exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

1. Take Care of Your Hands

To deal with dark knuckles, the first thing you need to do is take proper care of your hands.

Be gentle when you are washing or massaging your hands. At the same time, avoid washing them with extremely hot water and refrain from rubbing them too hard.

Also, care for your knuckles by using a soft loofah and pumice stones on a regular basis to clean them. Exfoliation helps get rid of the darkened skin.

2. Lemon and Sugar Scrub

Gently exfoliating your hands with a homemade lemon and sugar scrub can help lighten the tone of your skin by removing dead cells from the skin’s surface.

Being rich in vitamin C, lemons help get rid of dead skin cells and improve overall skin tone. It also aids new cell growth. The sugar granules help exfoliate dead skin cells and soften the skin.

Sprinkle some sugar on a halved piece of lemon. Scrub your knuckles with it to get rid of dirt and dead skin cells. Leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it off. Do this once a week.

Another option is to mix equal amounts of lemon juice and sugar. Apply it on your hands and feet. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then scrub off the paste. Rinse off the rest with water. Do this once or twice a week.

Caution: After using lemon, avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight for at least 1 to 2 hours.

3. Coconut Oil

A source of remarkable skin-benefiting goodness, coconut oil is a good home remedy to treat dark knuckles.

It has vitamin E that can help lighten the skin tone and prevent dryness by keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized. It can also repair dark and damaged skin.

A 2004 study published in Dermatitis reports that coconut oil significantly improves skin hydration and was just as effective as mineral oil.

Rub extra-virgin coconut oil all over the knuckles and massage the area before going to bed. Do this daily.

Alternatively, prepare a mixture with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and ½ teaspoon of lemon juice. Rub this oil on your dark knuckles and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe it off with paper towels. You can rinse your skin the next morning. Do this once daily.

Whether you want to save some money, learn the haircutting trade, or you’re just bored (like me!), cutting your own hair at home isn’t all that difficult. In fact, it’s easier than you think. Now I’m not referring to giving yourself a completely new do (going from long straight hair to a pixie cut or a bob), NO…please don’t do that. I’m simply talking about trimming and/or cutting your hair SHORTER than it previously was. So don’t get all crazy and artistic, unless you really don’t care about the outcome! Okay, so let’s get this cut going! First, I’ll tell you step-by-step how to do this, and then you can watch a video below! Here’s how to cut your own hair!

How to Cut Your Own Hair

What You’ll Need:

  1. A hair elastic
  2. A pair of hair cutting scissors (see notes below)
  3. Courage

How to:

  1. Start off with dry hair and make sure your hair is nice and frizz-free. For best results, straighten hair beforehand.
  2. Tip your head upside down, brush your hair forward and gather it into a nice tight ponytail that will start right at your hairline in the center of your head.
  3. Figure out how long you want your first layer to be. Will it end at your chin or at your cheekbones? You decide! Measure the distance of where your ponytail starts on your forehead to where you’d like the cut to be using a comb.
  4. Pick up that ponytail and hold it firmly between your hand. Grab your scissors and cut away in a straight line at the point that you measured. Just cut straight through! Don’t worry about cutting it straight or uneven – we’ll get to that in the next step!
  5. Next, still holding your hair in your hands, change your grip on your scissors and point them directly at your head. Start snipping away at the ends, in short, fast moves until your ends look like a shaving brush, fluffy with no harsh lines.
  6. Pull your hair out from the ponytail and voilà, you’ve successfully cut your hair! Read more

Eat your way to fabulous skin

Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of key nutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you’ll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free.

That said, as much as we may try to resist it, our skin does naturally age. Wrinkles and age spots are the inevitable result of time, but skin ageing may be sped up by overexposure to the sun and tanning beds, strong soaps, chemicals and poor nutrition. With this in mind, a holistic approach is best. 1. Eat a minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables every day

1. Eat a minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables every day

Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals, smoking, pollution and sunlight can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkin, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone.

2. Eat enough vitamin C

Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed to support the immune system, promote radiant skin and help blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. Vitamin C is needed to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin.

3. Don’t crash diet

Repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins and minerals too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin. It is always best to eat a healthy, balanced diet. If you’re considering trying a weight loss plan, make sure you have all the facts first – explore our expert guides to popular diets and read the six things you should consider before starting a diet.

4. Stock up on selenium

Selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and is essential to support the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat Brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount (RDA). Mix Brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin E as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli. Read more
