Ladies It’s Time to Start Shaving Your Face: Why Dermaplaning is Your New Anti-Aging BFF

0

Women shaving their face? It may seem an unorthodox anti-aging approach, but dermaplaning is different than the manly shave with razor and cream (or electric shaver). Find out what it can do for your skin.

You know how men’s skin seems to age slower than women’s? Well, women have caught on to the secret: Men get a regular exfoliation while shaving, and perhaps this has something to do with their wrinkle resistance.

Yes, there are those females who tout a daily zip of the electric shaver as part of their anti-aging routine. But there are safer and more effective ways to go about garnering the benefits of shaving. Enter…dermaplaning.

In fact, a dermaplane is just one beauty tool you should have in your at home beauty treatment arsenal. See our guide to “The 8 Best Beauty Tools For Perfectly Natural Skin” which also features the dermaplane.

Is this just a fancy term for shaving your face? Not so much. Dermaplaning is a procedure you can do at home or have professionally done that takes face-shaving to a whole new level.

Often combined with other anti-aging procedures, like microneedling and microdermabrasion, dermaplaning exfoliates skin with a special instrument. A scalpel is used when done by a professional, but there are at-home options too. Tinkle is a facial razor many women are using to remove facial hair and groom brows.

If this sounds like a lot of sloughing at one time, it is. The key is doing it the right way. Wondering why women would take part in this in the first place?

Dermaplaning devotees herald a long list of gorgeous skin benefits. Yes, there is the exfoliation factor and removal of unwanted hair. But dermaplaning is also said to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, increase skincare absorption, and make makeup application smoother and easier. Read more…

2 DIY Facials You Can Do At Home – No Matter Your Skin Type

Whether your skin is oily, dry, acne prone or normal, we’ve got you covered.

As an aesthetician, I know how important a professional facial is for healthy, glowing skin. But I always tell my clients that their skin is only as good as the work they put in between treatments. Since none of us knows when we’ll be able to go in for our next facial due to stay-at-home orders, it’s more important than ever to take good care of your skin at home. Luckily, many standard kitchen items make great DIY treatments, so you can take care of your skin even as the global pandemic rages on.

Since every person’s skin is different, the same mask might not be suitable across the board. The two below are some of my favorites. If you have normal to dry skin and need hydration – even if you suffer from acne – use the hydration mask. If your skin needs a detox from environmental pollutants, pollens, toxins, or debris from sweat or touching your skin, use the detox max. Either way, these mix-it-yourself masks are easy to recreate at home to keep your skin looking and feeling fresh.

Hydration Mask for Dry Skin

Spending a lot of time indoors means that you’re often stuck in a dry environment that zaps moisture out of your skin. As the weather heats up, AC will make that dryness even worse. This mask is a moisturizing multitasker: the vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps soothe irritation caused by dryness, while argan oil and avocado hydrate and strengthen the lipid barrier with omega fatty acids to prevent moisture from escaping the skin. Bonus: this mask makes an excellent hair treatment as well.

Ingredients (Makes ½ cup for single use):

How To Use:

  1. 1-Mix all the ingredients in a bowl to form a thick paste.
  2. 2-Cleanse face with a gentle cleanser and pat skin dry. Read more…

Healthy Hair Every Day

Your comb is tangled in your hair again, so you apply another product. Get Healthy Hair Every Day . Except this product doesn’t help either, and your hair is even more dry and brittle. If your hair is dry, you know how important it is to keep it hydrated to avoid damage and breakage. Whether you’re washing, drying, styling, or just getting out of the shower, these essential dos and don’ts can help protect your hair and keep it healthy. For Healthy Hair Every Day follow this tips:

Drying Guide for Dry Hair

  • Squeeze wetness out of your hair. Rubbing a towel back and forth causes friction, which breaks your hair.
  • Spray on a detangling, moisturizing product before using the blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron. This protects against the heat and keeps your hair from drying out. For maximum protection, spray it on from the ends to the roots and then brush through, rather than combing, to cover hair completely.
  • Use natural boar bristle brushes while blow drying.
  • Hold the blow dryer 4 to 6 inches away from the brush as you style.

Styling Guide for Dry Hair

  • Always clean your blow dryer’s vents regularly or buy a new one. When lint or hair build up in the dryer vents, the air can’t flow through freely and the pressure goes down. This means that you end up using too much heat to style your hair. Ask your stylist to check your blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron and other styling tools to make sure they’re in good working condition.
  • Use products that contain nourishing oils, like argan, avocado, and olive instead of heavily fragranced or volumizing products, which can dry out hair.
  • Deep condition at home up to twice a week and in the salon once a month.
  • Get regular trims from your stylist to keep your hair healthy and manageable without having to overuse conditioners or detangling products. Read More………..

EcoBeauty | 5 DIY skincare recipes using fruit leftovers and kitchen ingredients for a home spa, by SVA

Today’s article comes from the pen and kitchen of Deepali Sakhare, the Founder and Chief Formulator at Singapore-based skincare and haircare brand SVA. She shares recipes derived from Ayurvedic wisdom and modern pharmacology to clean up your beauty regimen.

Many among us are making conscious efforts to switch to beauty products that are natural and organic. After all, who wouldn’t prefer wholesome beauty solutions- products that make us look better without resorting to quick-fix toxins, cheap low-quality ingredients, and questionable production?  But as the trend towards Eco Beauty gains ground, it is a good time to dive deeper into the concept.  To my mind, it is not a simple matter of switching to brands with a “natural” tag or an “eco friendly” logo. It is in fact a philosophy that demands a lifestyle change!

So where can you begin to rejuvenate your cosmetic tool-kit?  Start with ‘reducing’. First off, reduce the use of multiple beauty products daily. You don’t need to apply 11 products to achieve flawless skin. And second, reduce the toxic load on your skin and body. Use natural ingredients that are gentle on skin and immensely beneficial in the long run (to you, and the planet too!).

Let me share with you some magical recipes (no exaggeration) that work just like their expensive counterparts; only they are 100% natural, non-toxic, sustainable and FREE!! Have fun creating these recipes with ingredients right in your kitchen, and discover how potent Mother Nature’s unadulterated produce can be.

Magic Peel Face Polish

It is ironic that we eat fresh fruits and vegetables to nourish our bodies but don’t trust their efficacy on our skin. My first ingredient is no less than magic – BANANA PEEL.

If you are throwing away the banana peels, then you should think twice. Banana peels (inside white part) are rich in lutein- an antioxidant, potassium, zinc, iron, manganese and pectin. These ingredients and vitamins combine to make banana peel an anti-inflammatory powerhouse. It’s great to reduce inflammation, treat acne, hydrate and polish your skin! Read more…

Try Hot Oil Therapy

Hot oil therapy can do wonders when it comes to hair care. It can help you restore the hair moisture and add shine to it. Soothe Your Skin With Aloe Vera Ice Cubes

0

Aloe vera ice cube are great to help with any pain you might have from stubborn big pimples. It also reduces the swelling. We get pimples as a result of many things, among them the skin’s release of a lot of oils. Ice helps reduce that oiliness and therefore, potentially reducing acne.

Short-stemmed plant stores water in it’s own leaves–so it makes a great skin soother and moisturizer while also healing with its antibiotic properties. But there’s something even better: aloe vera ice cubes. The soothing and cooling effect of the frozen aloe vera instantly provides comfort for even the worst of sunburns.

Here are some other ways to incorporate aloe vera cubes into your beauty and wellness routine:

As A Makeup Remover:

Many makeup removers contain ingredients that can be harsh on sensitive skin and causes dryness. If you tend to be on the sensitive side, switch to aloe vera. Believe it or not–this plant doubles as a effective, yet gentle makeup remover. Grab a cube out of the freezer and rub under eyes and face. The chill of the aloe vera also helps tighten pores and brighten.

For Healing Bug Bites:

Another summer bummer! If you find yourself itching, an aloe vera ice cube temporarily numbs the area and helps control swelling and redness. Wrap in a paper towel and leave on for up to ten minutes.

To Clear Acne:

Dealing with an occasional pimple? Aloe vera won’t do much for cystic acne but it’s definitely effective as a spot treatment. The anti-inflammatory properties reduce swelling and redness which make spots look less noticeable instantly.

To Treat Other Types Of Burns:

I cook a lot so it’s inevitable that I’ll burn myself every once in a while. I always make sure to keep a batch of Aloe vera cubes in the freezer for kitchen emergencies. It instantly helps soothe, cool, and reduce swelling.Read More……..

Facts About Gray Hair

All the Shades of Gray

It’s said a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Sooner or later, that crown will start to gray. You now face a decision. Banish gray hair with dye, or rock a silver mane? Whichever you pick, know the facts about your gray strands to keep your hair looking and feeling its best.

Science of Grays

Your hair follicles have pigment cells that make melanin, a chemical that gives your hair its color. As you age, these cells start to die. Without pigment, new hair strands grow in lighter and take on various shades of gray, silver, and eventually white. Once a follicle stops making melanin, it won’t make colored strands again.

When and Why It Happens

You might blame your stressful job or your unruly teens for your grays. But it’s mostly your genes that dictate how early and how quickly it happens. So if either of your parents had a full head of gray hair in their 30s, there’s a good chance you will, too.

How Race Plays a Role

On average, white people start to gray in their mid-30s. Asians start in their late 30s. And African Americans usually don’t see color changes until their mid-40s.

What’s Premature Gray?

Some people go gray 10 or more years earlier than the average person does. It’s premature if you’re gray before:

20 if you’re white

25 if you’re Asian

30 if you’re African American

Do Health Problems Turn Hair Gray?

They could. These conditions include:

  • Lack of vitamin B12
  • Certain rare, inherited tumor conditions
  • Thyroid disease
  • Vitiligo, a condition that destroys pigment-making cells in the scalp

Alopecia areata causes patches of hair (usually ones with color) to fall out. This can look like sudden graying because the hair that’s left is gray or white. When your hair regrows, it could be gray, white, or your normal color. Read more

Look Younger Secrets that Work

Start With Primer

If you’re old enough for laugh lines, a skin care makeover can give you a fresher, younger look. Our skin dries and thins with age, so products used five years ago may look quite matronly today. A better routine calls for skin primer, according to Robin Rylant, a celebrity makeup artist who’s worked with Celine Dion. A high-quality primer fills in small wrinkles, making them less visible.

Forgo Thick Foundation

If you still slather foundation directly over aging skin, you’re likely adding years to your look. That thick top coat tends to break into deep cracks, which look far worse than the fine lines you’re trying to hide. Instead, apply moisturizer, primer, then a light liquid foundation for additional skin-plumping moisture. Ryland suggests tapping it in gently with a sponge, rather than rubbing it in.

Avoid Clown Eyes

Applying flattering eye makeup requires precision. Unfortunately, eyesight tends to decline with age. “If you don’t see as well, you may not get the makeup on correctly,” Ryant says. The results can include clownish amounts of eye shadow or crooked eyeliner. The solution: “Get yourself a good magnifying mirror.”

Put Eyebrows Back On

“Eyebrows are extremely important because they frame the face,” Ryant says. But the brows tend to grow thinner and grayer with age. To “put eyebrows back on,” Ryant recommends using eyebrow pencil that complements your hair color. Placing powder over the pencil will help it stay put. Some people choose to have eyebrows permanently tattooed, but the FDA and Consumer Reports has raised safety concerns about this practice.

Don’t Let the Lips ‘Bleed’

Few things draw attention to wrinkles like bleeding lip color. This happens because lipstick is a cream, and it tends to slip into any low spaces — including the lines around your lips. To keep color from traveling, use moisturizer, then coat the lips with foundation before applying lipstick. Read more

See How Your Life Affects Your Skin

How to Keep Your Skin Beautiful

Your skin protects your body, but that’s not all. It’s the face you present to the world. When healthy, it’s a source of beauty. The choices you make every day — what you eat, where you go, how you feel — affect how your skin looks. Use this visual guide to keep your skin youthful, healthy, and wrinkle-free.

You’ve Got Food on Your Face

Want good skin? Watch your diet. Higher intakes of vitamin C and a lower intake of fats and carbohydrates are associated with better appearance as your skin ages. Changing your diet will help your looks. Foods rich in antioxidants, such as fish, fruits, and vegetables, seem to help protect skin. Some studies suggest that to avoid breakouts, go for complex carbohydrates (like whole grains and pasta) and healthy protein. Dairy may also be linked to acne flares.

Eat Your Vitamins

Your anti-aging cream may contain vitamin C or E. Put these antioxidants to work from the inside, too. Eating foods rich in these vitamins, plus the mineral selenium, can help protect your skin against sun damage. They may even help reverse signs of aging, like wrinkles and skin discoloration.

Run Away From Aging Skin

Exercise benefits every part of your body — including your largest organ, the skin. Working out improves circulation, helping nourish the skin. Better blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients and may help your skin produce collagen, which staves off wrinkles. Don’t fret about sweat — exercise will not clog your pores. Wash your face right after a workout and avoid tight headbands, which can trap sweat and irritate skin.

Get Your Beauty Rest

Burn the candle at both ends for a few nights, and you may see it reflected in your face: Dark circles under the eyes, pale skin, and puffy eyes. Getting 7-8 hours a night will keep your body and skin in top shape. It matters how you sleep, too — rest your face on the pillow in the same position for years, and you’ll get wrinkles where the skin is pressed against the pillow. Sleeping on your stomach will worsen bags under your eyes. Solution? Sleep on your back. Read more
