Samsung Announces Health-Focused Galaxy Watch3 Smartwatch

Electronics giant Samsung recently held their virtual “Galaxy Unpacked” event where they announced the latest upgrades to their popular mobile devices. Along with phones, tablets, and earbuds, Samsung unveiled the newest version of their smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch3.

The Watch3 has several new features and upgrades that make it a worthy competitor to the Apple Watch, but perhaps where it stands out this year is its emphasis on health management.

Like other smartwatches, the Watch3 contains an accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical sensors to monitor your heart rate, track your workouts and exercises, analyze your sleep, and monitor for falls. The new wearable also features an ECG and a pulse oximeter that will monitor and track SpO2 (blood oxygen concentration) as well as VO2 max (maximum oxygen consumption), although Samsung says these will stay disabled until a software update later this year. Most interestingly, the Watch3 is also one of the few devices we’ve come across that has the ability to perform cuffless blood pressure measurements.

This feature, while not yet cleared by the FDA in the United States, has been approved in South Korea and implemented in a previous Samsung smartwatch. The watch measures blood pressure via pulse wave analysis using data coming from the heart rate sensors. However, this method requires an initial calibration with a traditional cuff, as well as a recalibration every four weeks. Though this indirect method of blood pressure measurement has been known about for many years now, developers have been unable to achieve an accuracy that would approach traditional cuff-based devices in all patients. Vaginal Hifu Machine

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound ( HIFU Vaginal) is a gold class and non-surgical procedure. Placing energy shots into the internal skin at depths of 3mm & 4.5mm per treatment. Vaginal HIFU machine ensures simultaneous lifting and tightening. The automated vaginal wand benefits from a 360° rotation for consistent results.

Vaginal HiFU technology targets the DERMAL and SMAS layer. For both superficial and muscular tightening generating new collagen. Causing the skin to tighten and lift continually for up to 90 days.

Results last on average between 2 and 4 years.

HiFu is an advanced vaginal tightening treatment. It uses HIFU (high-frequency focussed ultrasound). – the same technology which has been effective in outstanding and non-surgical facelifts.

The focused beams of ultrasound converge, creating a thermal nodal point. At a much deeper layer than similar LASER treatments are capable of achieving.

The procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes. We tell clients to avoid intercourse for 24 hours following treatment. Because mild tenderness may occur.

Why choose HIFU Vaginal Tightening?

The procedure takes a short time, and is non-invasive and does not cause pain.

No downtime or recovery period is necessary.

It improves the strength, function, and elasticity of the vaginal muscles.

It increases sexual pleasure.

It gives more bladder control.  Read More..

Digital Guide Dog for Blind People

Guide dog can be incredibly helpful, letting blind people maintain a level of independence that would be difficult without their loyalty. However, guide dog require a huge amount of training and, because they’re dogs, are not practical for every blind person. Now, a student at Loughborough University in England has designed a concept handheld device that can do some of the tasks of a guide dog.

The electronic tool is called Theia and it features gyroscope-based technology to pull the user in the correct direction. This is similar to how many virtual reality controllers work, but the direction of the pull would be decided using a mapping system that takes into consideration the ease and safety of a given path and other matters important to blind people.

The guidance system doesn’t need to make any sounds to let the user know how to proceed, and is therefore quite discreet. There shouldn’t be much of a learning curve when using the Theia as it’s expected to be completely intuitive.

The project is in its early stages still, but an initial prototype has been built. There’s a still a lot to do to integrate Lidar (laser-based distance measurement), mapping, and guidance capabilities into the device, but guidance capabilities in particular may not be too challenging since many similar systems, such as Google Maps, may be modified to control the Theia. Neurostimulation Device Reduces Withdrawal Symptoms of Kids Born Addicted to Opioids

Children born to mothers addicted to opioids suffer through withdrawal in their first few weeks of life. Morphine is commonly used in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) to alleviate symptoms while the kids are weaned from drug dependency. This typically takes two to four weeks, all the while the children are kept in the NICU.

A new electrical device, called Roo from Spark Biomedical, is now undergoing testing, that may help shorten the weaning time to ten days or less by stimulating the cranial nerve branches on and near the ear. The therapy it administers, called Transcutaneous Auricular Neurostimulation (tAN), reportedly motivates the brain to release endorphins that bind to opioid receptors, and thereby reduce the brain’s hunger for opioids. This technology was already successfully tested in a clinical trial on adult patients suffering from opioid withdrawal, so the same gentle-to-administer therapy was attempted with neonates as well.

“This neurostimulation is giving the brain a little bit of a boost of its own endogenous opioids to perhaps reduce the need for exogenous morphine, which has all these dangerous side effects when delivered for prolonged periods of time in this critical neurodevelopmental window,” said Bashar Badran, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Motorized Makeup Brush

I’m a firm believer that beauty and technology go hand in hand, and I have to say, when I saw this product

at Sephora I knew I had to try it. Could a motorized brush beat a makeup artist at flawless foundation application? I’ll be honest; I wasn’t sure the blendSMART2 Foundation Brush could. But, you know me, I had to review this for you guys. The blendSMART brush has a motorized head that moves in circular motions, which is entirely different to the dabbing and stippling application I use for my foundation. Have I been missing out on this technique all these years?!

What it is: It’s the only motorized makeup brush that spins clockwise at 190 RPM – much faster than I think I could go! It has one speed, which is designed to work with any liquid or powder products. Five interchangeable brush heads connect magnetically to a battery powered handle, and they’re antimicrobial and soft enough for use on sensitive skin. You can choose from powder, blush, foundation, and definer brush heads, as well as a full coverage foundation or finishing brush head.

What it does: It’s designed to effortlessly blend makeup for a flawless airbrush finish. Liquids should be dabbed sparingly across the face, and then you should move the blendSMART over your face to blend. For powders, dip the brush into your powder and tap off any excess before sweeping the brush across your face. The variety of brushes makes blending and building coverage easy for beginners.

What we liked: If you like very little coverage, this brush might work well for you; otherwise it’ll take you a long time to reach your desired level of cake! I think this could work best as a finisher brush: I found it struggled to move the makeup around my face, but it could be useful after your initial foundation application to ensure a smooth finish.  Read More…

PulseNmore At-Home Tele-Ultrasound for Pregnant Women

During these trying COVID days, patients have been limited in the care they receive because clinics have been limiting access and because patients themselves have been wary of visiting medical facilities. Pregnant women are a particularly vulnerable group and require frequent office visits, including receiving ultrasound exams.

A new device has just been unveiled by PulseNmore, an Israeli firm, that allows patients to perform ultrasound exams themselves and share the results immediately with their sonographers or physicians.

The device is a dock for a smartphone, the bottom being the ultrasound transducer. An app on the smartphone provides training and guidance to the patient so that a scan is performed to achieve high-quality results. Captured images are then shared with the patient’s clinical team and those can be used to guide further decisions.

The people behind PulseNmore hope that the new tele-ultrasound will help clinicians to provide optimal care for their patients while reducing the chance of viral transmission. Israel’s largest HMO, Clalit Health Services, which has over 4 million members, has signed a contract to provide tens of thousands of PulseNmore devices to pregnant women under its management. Vagus Nerve Stimulator Gets FDA Emergency OK for Asthmatics with COVID

People stricken with COVID-19 exhibit a wide range of symptoms. Some are barely affected while others suffer dire consequences. People with asthma are in particular danger, as SARS-CoV-2 is a respiratory virus that can make breathing even more difficult. Now, the FDA has issued an Emergency Use Authorization for the gammaCore Sapphire CV non-invasive vagus nerve stimulator (nVNS) to help adult asthmatics with COVID-19 (or those suspected of being infected) overcome difficulties breathing when drugs are not appropriate or are insufficient.

The gammaCore stimulator has been approved as a treatment option for migraines and cluster headaches (see flashbacks below), but it was initially researched as a way for treating reactive airway diseases such as asthma. The new Emergency Use Authorization, in a way, validates that research.

“Results from prior pilot studies that evaluated gammaCore for the acute treatment of asthma support our belief that nVNS may provide much needed relief to patients who are experiencing asthma-related breathing difficulty, which can be particularly debilitating in patients with COVID-19,” said Peter Staats, MD, Chief Medical Officer of electroCore. Potentially this may lead to the vagus nerve stimulator being used more widely for asthma and other reactive airway diseases. Read more…
