Are High-Frequency Treatments The Acne Cure We’ve Been Waiting For?

What Are High Frequency Treatments?

High-frequency treatments are frequently used in facials to treat stubborn acne, calm inflammation, shrink pores, reduce the signs of aging, and so much more. I’ve had these treatments done during facials for years, but recently, I found out you can do it at home. And it’s a game-changer.

High-frequency treatments use electrical currents that are set at just the right frequency to benefit your skin without, well, electrocuting you. When the glass electrode (attached to the base of the machine) is applied to the skin, it generates oxygen which kills bacteria and calms inflammation. This glass electrode comes in a variety of shapes and sizes that address different concerns and areas of the face. The most common shapes are:

  • Dot-Point: targets pimples

  • Mushroom: treats broader areas of the face like the cheek and forehead

  • Tongue or spoon: treats contours of the face like around the nose

It’s the NuDerma Skin Therapy Wand and it comes with the electrodes listed above, plus a comb electrode that’s meant to stimulate hair growth.

    HOW TO USE

    1. Cleanse and exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating away dead skin cells will help the device work even better. I highly recommend Kate Somerville Exfoliate for all exfoliating needs.

    2. Apply a serum.

    3. Insert the electrode of choice in the the machine and turn it on. The NuDerma wand I used has a dial at the bottom to adjust the intensity. I prefer to use it on the lowest intensity, but I plan to increase it over time.

    4. Glide the device over your skin. I have two important tips for this. One is to always maintain contact with the machine to avoid “shocking” yourself. To do this, touch the glass electrode with your finger as you apply it to your skin and then remove your finger once it’s in contact with your skin.

What Is Emsculpt? You Need to Know About the Body-Contouring Treatment

Emsculpt gives a huge boost to your exercise regimen. As a non-invasive body sculpting solution, improved muscle tone has been proven through MRI, CT scan and ultrasound. This FDA cleared device is suitable for men and women of all ages for the strengthening, toning and firming of the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and arms.

emsculpt

Men and women who are at or close to their ideal weight are the best candidates. They are health conscious and exercise regularly. They are looking for that extra definition that the exercise is not giving them. There is no age limitation. Patients who have had prior surgeries such as a C section, abdominoplasty or liposuction, will have scar tissue that may make the contractions more uncomfortable than usual. These candidates can be treated as long as they are fully healed and have complete feeling in the treatment area.

The following conditions exclude a candidate from Emsculpt:

  • pregnancy
  • cardiac pacemakers
  • implanted defibrillators, implanted neurostimulators
  • electronic implants
  • pulmonary insufficiency
  • metal implants
  • drug pumps
  • hemorrhagic conditions
  • heart disorders
  • malignant tumor
  • fever

Although the treatment may be performed on patients with higher BMI’s and muscles may still be strengthened, fat will cover the muscle definition.

How It Works

Emsculpt utilizes High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) to cause deep muscle stimulation. A single Emsculpt session induces 20,000 muscle contractions. All this is done without any effort on your part. Emsculpt is basically a mini MRI machine that uses therapeutic levels of magnetic fields.

  • Immunoglobulin G (IgG) – produced later and lasts long, which can be used as an indicator of previous or secondary infection.
  • Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) assay – This is currently the recommended test to confirm COVID-19 infection which can be used to detect the virus. Through this assay, SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in nasal or pharyngeal samples.

1. What is COVID-19 IgG and IgM Rapid Antibody Test (RAT)?

This Antibody Test qualitatively detects the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies against the COVID-19 virus in human serum, plasma, and venous whole blood specimen for the auxiliary diagnosis of COVID-19 infection.

The COVID-19 RAT CANNOT be used as a standalone test to definitively diagnose COVID-19 as the rRT-PCR test remains to be the gold standard in determining whether a person is infected or infectious. The COVID-19 RAT CANNOT be used for screening for COVID-19 disease, mass testing, or self-testing.

Types of Back Braces Used for Lower Back Pain Relief

0

Lower back braces vary in composition to help address a range of back pain conditions, from severe muscle strain to postoperative healing. Most back braces are made from similar materials, but differ in their rigidity and postural control.

Generally, back braces are categorized as flexible, semi-rigid, and rigid. Rigid braces tend to be used for moderate to severe cases of pain and/or instability, such as to assist healing of spinal fractures or after back surgery. Semi-rigid and flexible braces are used for more mild or moderate pain.

Flexible orthoses are made of a soft material, such as cotton/elastic blends, canvas, and/or neoprene (a type of synthetic, flexible rubber). These braces include corsets, lumbar belts, and sacroiliac belts.

Flexible lumbar belts or corsets typically come in a variety of sizes and designs. A corset brace looks similar to a woman’s corset, and allows for some limited bending. Corsets typically include vertical metal or plastic stays at the front, back, and/or sides of the brace that provide stability and some motion restriction.

Lumbar belts and sacroiliac belts provide somewhat more restriction in movement, and are typically made of a sturdier fabric without stays.

Flexible corsets and belts can help relieve lower back pain by:

  • Applying light pressure to the torso to help adjust posture and shift weight off of the spinal column
  • Providing some added spinal support to take pressure off of weakened or injured muscles
  • Moderately limiting range of motion to allow for some bending and twisting. For instance, while wearing a flexible brace, it may be possible to bend forward enough to touch the top of the knee, but not past the knees
  • Reducing micro-motion at a loose or weakened joint through compression of the torso or pelvis (especially in lumbar and sacroiliac joint belts.

How to Make the Most of a Galvanic Facial Machine

Galvanic Facial Treatment

  1. Use your usual cleanser to cleanse your face and neck. Dry your face with a towel and pat the skin gently. Utilize a cotton ball or spritzer bottle to apply facial toner. Allow the skin to dry up naturally.
  2. On one half of your face and neck, apply the pre-treatment gel. Consider your placement in the mirror. Start the machine by pressing the start button. Most of the devices display a specific treatment time.  If your machine does not have this feature, use a kitchen timer or watch. Two minutes should be allotted for this portion of the treatment.

Galvanic Facial Treatment

  1. Wet your hand and grip the device, ensuring that your fingers make contact with the conductive part of the device. Begin your facial by placing the galvanic machine’s end against your skin. Circulate the unit around the area of your face and neck where the pre-treatment gel was applied. When the timer sounds or the machine indicates that the treatment is complete, come to a halt. Remove any remaining gel by rinsing. Repeat on the opposite side.
  2. On one half of your face and neck, apply the treatment gel. Determine the duration of your treatment following the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific machine. Set your timer or adhere to the manufacturer’s time selection guidelines. I suggest three to five minutes for the primary treatment.

Galvanic Facial Treatment

  1. As with the pre-treatment phase, wet your hand. Make contact with your cheek and continue the treatment by smoothly moving the device around. Rinse your skin and pat it dry. Continue with the opposite side of your face by following the exact directions.
  2. Push the power button to turn it off. With a damp towel, wipe away any gel residue. At this point, apply any additional skincare products such as serum, moisturizer, or sunscreen.

Are 24K GOLD FACIAL MASKS Worth All The Hype?

About The 24k Gold Facial Mask

Facial masks have always proved popular with both men and women. Nowadays there are so many different products on the market to choose from but it was the 24k gold facial masks that caught my eye. Who wouldn’t want to feel like a million dollars with their face covered in gold especially if it offered to fight the signs of ageing.

As I suffer from very dry skin I wanted to avoid the harsh effects of the equally as popular charcoal face masks. So I used the Mabox 24K Gold Facial Mask with Anti-Aging and Wrinkle Formula Collagen Peel-Off Mask. The ingredients are made up of vitamins, nutrients and extracts essential and are safe to your skin’s health. It’s designed to be suitable for all skin types but still has the power to exfoliate and remove blackheads but soft enough to be useful for sensitive skin types.

The Review

The packaging is very stylish and looks alluring with the black and gold colours used. The tube does require a quick shake before use to blend the gold color and ingredients together. The metallic gold liquid mask was easy to apply and remove, especially when compared to its charcoal-mask counterparts which I tend to find are very painful to remove. Of course, like all masks, it is important to keep this mask far away from the hairline or risk pulling the hair out as well.

I did feel more comfortable wearing a gold face mask around the house as opposed to say a green or black face mask. I left the mask to dry for 20 minutes before starting to peel the mask away. Any leftover residue was easily removed with lukewarm water.

How to Use ALOE VERA for Your Healthiest Hair Yet

Aloe vera gel can do everything from boost digestive health to moisturize skin—but did you know it also has amazing benefits for your hair? “Aloe vera is abundant in vitamins and minerals which are essential for healthy hair. It has a soothing, moisturizing, and protective effect on hair and skin. This rejuvenates hair, giving it elasticity and strength, and prevents breakage,” says dermatologic surgeon Dr. Emer, MD.

The Biggest Benefits of aloe vera for your hair

1. It boosts hair growth.

Want thicker, stronger hair? Aloe vera promotes healthy hair growth thanks to a special enzyme found in aloe called proteolytic enzymes. These enzymes effectively break down dead skin cells on the scalp that may clog hair follicles. If hair follicles are blocked with excess sebum, dirt, or dead skin, they won’t be able to grow properly. Aloe can also help cleanse the scalp so more nutrients can penetrate the hair follicle, helping hair grow faster and more efficiently.

2. It’s super calming.

Aloe Vera is soothing on your skin after a sunburn—and your scalp loves its calming effects, too. “Aloe Vera may reduce inflammation and calm itching on the scalp that helps improve symptoms associated with dandruff,” says Dr. Emer. “Some research shows that aloe vera is anti-fungal and antibacterial which also decreases the risk of developing dandruff or a flaky scalp.”

3. It’s strengthening.

Aloe vera has a similar chemical makeup to keratin, the primary protein found in hair that helps to moisturize, strengthen, and repair damage. The aloe vera plant is also an excellent source of essential amino acids, fatty acids, and vitamins A, C, E, and B-12. Together, these health benefits promote hair regrowth, while keeping hair nourished and well-hydrated. It also helps maintain a strong moisture barrier, which is key to keeping hair strands super strong.

How to deal with an ingrown hair

Ingrown hairs can be painful and a nuisance. They typically affect people with thick, curly hair, and can become infected if left untreated. But, how should they be treated and can they be prevented?

Preventing It can often be managed at home, though there are times when a visit to the doctor may be appropriate.

This article explores ways to treat and prevent ingrown hairs, to reduce discomfort for people who experience them.

What are ingrown hairs?

An ingrown hair is a hair that has curled back into the skin instead of growing out of the skin’s surface. It is most common in people with thick, coarse, or curly hair types. Medically an ingrown hair is known as “pseudofolliculitis barbae.”

It can occur anywhere on the body. Ingrown hairs commonly occur in areas where the skin is shaved or subject to a lot of friction, including:

  • beard
  • legs
  • underarms
  • chest
  • pubic area

Signs and symptoms of ingrown hair are:

  • itching skin or irritation surrounding the hair
  • rashes
  • razor burn

The site of the ingrown hair will form into a raised bump on the skin that may begin to look like a pimple. The bump will often turn reddish, become irritated and sensitive, and may fill with pus.

What causes ingrown hair?

Anything that does not let the hair grow normally can cause ingrown hairs, and it is usually for one of the following reasons:

Improper hair removal

The most common cause of ingrown hair is an improper shaving technique. Cutting hair very close to the skin creates a very sharp tip on the end of each of the hairs.

Most of these hairs will grow back out without a problem. However, some hairs can curl back on themselves and grow into the skin. When this happens, the body responds to the hair as if it were an intruder, causing inflammation, which is the typical symptom of ingrown hair.

Shaving is not the only way ingrown hairs occur. Waxing and plucking hairs out also commonly cause ingrown hairs.

Plucked hair grows back through the follicle. As such, it may not make it all the way to the surface of the skin before turning and clogging the follicle.
