HOW TO SELECT PRODUCTS FOR ANTI-AGING SKINCARE
HOW TO SELECT PRODUCTS FOR ANTI-AGING SKINCARE

With so many anti-aging products in the market, it’s sometimes difficult to know which one to use. These dermatologist shopping tips can help you feel more secure while shopping.

Here are some tips:

  1. Begin with sunscreen and moisturizer. Dermatologists agree that the two most effective anti-aging products are sunscreen and moisturizer. Using these daily can make a significant difference.

When purchasing sunscreen, look for one that contains all of the following:

  • Broad-spectrum
  • SPF 30 (or greater)

It is acceptable to use a moisturizer that contains sunscreen. Ensure that the product provides broad-spectrum protection and has an SPF of 30 or greater.

  1. Address your primary aging skin concern. Allow sunscreen and moisturizer to work for a few weeks. Then examine your skin. Is there an aging sign that still bothers you?

Concentrating on a single issue such as wrinkles or dark spots will yield the best results. Look for a product that addresses your specific problem. This is for two reasons:

  • No product is capable of reversing all signs of skin aging.
  • Using multiple anti-aging products in a short period, such as a few days or weeks, can irritate the skin, making you appear older.

  1. Sunscreen, moisturizer, and other anti-aging skincare products that are formulated for your skin type will work best. For instance, if your skin is prone to oiliness, choose an oil-control moisturizer. You want to see the words “sensitive skin” on the label if you have sensitive skin. This is critical because no single product is effective for everyone.
  2. Read product labels and choose a product that satisfies the following criteria:
  • Allergen-free
  • Non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic
  • Consumer service hotline
