When the cold weather arrives, the humidity level falls. This cold weather, combined with dry skin and the fact that our oil-producing glands slow down during the winter, can cause your normally healthy skin to feel dehydrated. It becomes even more sensitive, which can eventually result in more severe skin conditions. Thus, how do you take care of your skin during the winter? The following are some expert-recommended tips for preventing your skin from drying out.
Avoid direct contact with water
Consider applying cleansing oil to your skin prior to stepping into a bath. Allow it to soak for a few minutes before washing it off as you exit the shower. Once you’re outside, immediately apply the moisturizer to your face and body while your skin is still damp. This aids in moisture retention and leaves the skin supple.
Utilize multiple layers of skin care
Just as you would layer your winter clothes before venturing out for the day, you should layer your skin as well. Moisture-attracting serums and facial oils should be applied to clean skin, followed by a nourishing cream to seal the deal.
Pay special attention to the area around your eyes and lips.
Your skin around your eyes and lips is thinner and lacks oil glands to protect it. Thus, using serums and oils that soothe and protect the skin around the eyes will help. You can use an occlusive balm on your lips to create a barrier against the elements.
Pursue natural skincare ingredients
Any fragranced body or skin care product will exacerbate your skin’s dryness during the winter months. As a result, I always opt for unscented and natural formulations to get the most out of them.
Avoid abrasive, alcohol-based cleansers.
Invest in winter creams and balms. If your skin feels parched, you can double cleanse it. Use water with the first cleanser and a dry cleanser with the second.
