So I was totally spoiled this year for my birthday by my little sister who only went and bought me a freaking Loreal Professional Steampod! I nearly passed out with the excitement, no joke!
The L’Oréal Steampod has recently become a massive competitor to the GHD hair styler over the past year. This is due to it’s ability to reduce hair damage during the styling process, whilst retaining your hairs natural moisture. So it’s fair to say that the Steampod is giving the GHD a run for its money, but does it perform as well?

The hair straightening technique involves “using a continuous flow of high pressure steam to hydrate each strand from the inside out without causing heat damage” through it’s anodized ceramic plates. There are 5 temperature settings from 140° – 230°, along with a detangling comb attachment. This helps to brush your hair whilst running the steampod and preventing breakage. The pod is safely filled with clean water and placed on a steady surface, and is connected to the straightener. The water travels from the pod to the straightener where it then produces steam from the plates.
Although it’s suitable for all hair types, it’s been heavily marketed towards thick hair, mainly because of its ability to penetrate the hair cuticle. As the steam is diffused from the plates, it infuses water into the hair’s cuticles before the heat and pressure smoothes them down. This moisture prevents hair cuticle damage, unlike a regular hot flat plate iron which burns the hair cuticle the second it touches, causing unrepairable heat damage. You’ll find a list of heat styling recommendations adjusted to a wide range of different hair types in the manual which is really handy to have upon first use.
