You should look after your makeup tools and applicators just as much as you would your skin. You cleanse your skin on a regular basis and maintain its health. Sanitize your cosmetics, makeup brushes, mascara wands, and lipstick applicators similarly. Sanitizing everything has become a top priority, even more so in an age when we are all at risk of COVID-19. If you’ve been exposed to the virus and are using makeup, there are a few steps you can take to keep your makeup products safe and clean.

Sponges and brushes
If you believe that simply spraying alcohol-based sprays over your makeup brushes and sponges is sufficient, you are mistaken. While alcohol-based sprays will kill bacteria, they will not address product build-up. Brushes should be cleaned once a week. You can wash and dry all your brushes and sponges with your regular shampoo before restoring them. Additionally, you must sanitize your kit or containers using wipes.
Mascara
With this product, you may need to exercise greater caution than with any other. The residual alcohol on the wand can cause an eye infection, as well as itchiness and redness. If you’re concerned about using eye makeup after being exposed to the COVID-19 virus, you can simply discard it rather than sanitizing it. Invest in new products only when you are confident in their use.
Lipsticks
For lipsticks, you can purchase a spray containing 70% alcohol and spray it directly onto the tip. Each time you use it, wipe it clean with a clean tissue. Lip pencils can be sharpened on a regular basis, and if you’re concerned about using a twist-rip product, break off the very top to ensure you’re using the safest part possible.
Powders
Powders are generally the safest option, but if you want to sanitize powder foundation or blushes, avoid spraying the alcohol-based product from a close distance. Rather than that, skim a layer off the top, spray it with alcohol from a distance, and allow it to dry completely before closing the tub or box.
